Dung Bang!!! AKA Poop Bread!

What is Korea’s obsession with Dung? I mean there are even children’s books on it. Seriously. No joke. One I read tells the story of how a little turd was born from a dog and then lived its life until it grew up (or decomposed) to become a beautiful flower.

Yeah. Sure.

Well, in Insadong in Seoul. There is the huge art/ shopping complex called the Ssamzigil. Here you can find a cart named Dalki (Korean for Strawberry) that sells red bean bread in the shape of strawberries and Dung.

How do they taste?

Well…It’s more about the look than the taste.

I was just here last month! I didn’t try them, but I figured they tasted similar to the Japanese fish waffles with the red-bean paste in them. BTW, I *heart* Dalki – the character and the fruit!

Oh man, the dung obsession has always puzzled me but this takes it over the edge…

i was -at- Ssamzigil and I missed that. 똥! ㅋㅋㅋ We can ask, what is the korean obsession with 똥 or… why are americans so uptight about 똥? you can't even mention 똥 in america. In korea, on an ep of Vitamin (a fun health & food show) a couple years ago the celeb panel was asked to provide stool aka 똥 samples and from that, their overall health was analyzed. they also had to answer q about how often they pooped and its, uh, character. They were completely unabashed about this. The one celeb I remember being on the panel was Yoon Do Hyun, the musician and ultimate cool guy. I keep thinking — wow, this is amazing and refreshing. Imagine this show in the states…uh…no.
