Culinary Tourism? What’s that? It’s something that the company that I work for is starting up in Korea. So far, it has been going pretty well. It’s nice to see that other people are doing it as well. Here is a woman in Spain doing tours for tapas. The whole idea is that you have an insider’s tour of Seoul. You can read about our tour offerings here.
Cristina Alonso holds a doctorate in environmental engineering, has worked as a researcher in the U.S. and taught math at a university in Spain. Now she’s giving me some advice from her latest profession: “If you see a lot of locals, you know they’re here for something,” she says. “They’re the ones who talk loudly… see what tapas they’re eating.”The 44-year-old Ms. Alonso, a native Spaniard, has abandoned engineering in favor of tapas tourism—taking clients around tapas bars in Spain. A private tour costs €95 ($127) a person including food and wine. “You relate closely to people,” she says about her job switch. “If you work as a researcher as I did, you see nothing.”
