True Sicilian Food at Ciuri Ciuri in Seoul

Image
cannoli in Seoul Korea True Sicilian Food at Ciuri Ciuri in Seoul Had an amazing Sicilian Italian lunch at Ciuri Ciuri in Hongdae. The arancine were huge with light floral saffron and filled with prosciutto and cream. Delicious. You could really taste the freshness of the pasta in their truffle ravioli and it had the perfect chew to the pasta. The cannoli were the star with a ringing flavor of orange zest and creamy marscapone that wasn't too sweet that paired with the incredible crunch of the shell. Wow. I will go back soon. Very impressive, authentic food. Ciuri Ciuri mapo-gu sangsu dong 314-3 FB: ciuriciuriseoul #seouleats #italiankorea #cannoli #realfood #sicilianfood #ciuriciuru

Growth Hacking the Korean Market

Image
Korea is a very interesting country for business. For years, I have worked in the digital realm and I have leveraged it for my businesses. My main job at the companies I have worked in have been sales but technically that wasn't my position. I was either a marketing manager, team leader, owner, etc. Many Korean companies seem to think that sales is a lowly position. I have never felt that way and I feel it is something that my American sensibilities have been attuned to. I create brands, create a story, reach perspective clients and then close the deal. Sounds simple doesn't it? It doesn't seem to be that simple for many of my Korean colleagues who get caught up in the idea of saving face, job titles, and social status. Whatever, I'm over all that stuff. I like to focus on the job and get it done quickly and efficiently. I scout for the best talent and producers instead of just relying on my network and personal contacts as I found many others do. I might be

Photoblog: Korea at Night

Image
Here are some shots that I took on a recent stroll at night. I love the Yeonnamdong area since it has so much character. It's full of artists, dreamers and individuals looking to do their own thing. I took the photos with my Panasonic G85 with a 20mm lens. I love the new G85 since it has in body stabilization and a ton of other features like post focus and 4K videos. Anyway. Enjoy and enjoy your day. Dan Flash! Cereal Killer Cake Maker I will give you that no one could see

Decent Burger for 8,500 won at Triple B

Image
Had a decent burger at triple b in Yeonnamdong. Pretty tasty but the burger was a knife and fork deal since it fell apart too quickly. Good bun that was toasted and was fresh baked by a local baker down the street. The toppings were decent as well: tomato, sautéed onions, secret sauce that was like a Russian dressing and melted cheese. We also got the guacamole which was tasty but it could have used a bit more tartness. The place is tiny but service was prompt and friendly. For the price, I would totally recommend it. My burger was 8,500 won and the guacamole was 9,000. They have hand and malt and ark beer on tap. Is Korea Ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics?

Image
Having done events in Korea for many years, I have had a number of phone calls from clients looking for help for the 2018 Winter Olympics. To date, I have taken numerous trips to Pyeongchang to scout out the region for venues, hotels, warehouses, staffing, supplies and more. Each time I go there to talk with city officials and people from the different committees, I am told, "It's coming. We're building it." It's this "wait and see" technique that I think will cause a major headache before next year. In short, is Korea ready for the Olympics? Well...let's wait and see. I hope so and from living in Korea for so many years, I know that, generally, it'll all work out. But before it can work out, there has to be fight, a struggle, an argument, a totally embarrassing oversight, etc. I am not trying to offend anyone here, I just know that that's the case. I find the best way to survive this is to be prepared and work out as many "Plan B&#

Amazing Charcoal BBQ at Jangwedong Yousungjip

Amazing Charcoal BBQ at Jangwedong Yousungjip Content created by @marketsqkr "I have visited here for 15 years. They only serve 'Dengshim gui' which means grilled sirloin. It really well matchs with their special spicy sauce and radish Kimchi." Excellent Shabu Shabu at Daegwanryeong In Hongdae

Image
Hey all, wanted to share a local haunt that has been around for ages for all the right reasons. Daegwanryeong Shabu Shabu is one of favorite places for this dish because all of the ingredients are so fresh! They even grow the mushrooms in the fridges. Great veggies and broth that tastes like broth and not just msg (note it does have a tad too much black pepper, but I am cool with that). You get a ton of mushrooms and veggies and they have excellent buckwheat noodles as well to make soup. Definitely check it out.  It's in Hongdae down the street next to Samsung digital building and then make a right.  마포구 동교동 158-28 — at 홍대 Hongdae.

Seoul Playdate: Sledding at Baedalgol and Cooking for Baby

Image
We wanted to spend a fun day wit our baby so we went to baedagol Taema Park for sledding. Good times and #hazellbaby loves it ! #seoulkiddate #sledding #korea A video posted by Seoul Eats By Yoonie and Danny (@seouleats) on Jan 7, 2017 at 7:57pm PST Ok, so this whole baby thing is fun. There is just a ton of stuff that we need to do to keep the baby happy. She is the boss after all. Over the weekend, which was unusually warm, we took Hazellbaby to Baedagol Taema Park over by Ilsan. The park is great. They have a huge coy pond attraction, animals such as pigs, bunnies and donkeys; and a mini sledding part. We spent a few hours there playing and eating. The eats were pretty good for typical Korean park fare such as sweet potatoes, tteokbokki, ramen etc. They did have handmade sausages which were pretty good and pizza there. The pizza was pretty generic but they did cook it in a stone oven. The next day it was all about staying home and cooking for the baby. I made som

Real Sourdough Bagels in Yeonnamdong

Image
Mocha bagel from SF bagel in yeonnamdong. Dam good and made the slow, real way using their own sourdough starter. The crust was crisp and had a soft, chewy interior. Would recommend for those looking for a decent bagel in Seoul (but take your own cream cheese since they were out when I was there. 385-1 yeonnam-dong Mapo-gu Seoul.
