Banchan: Bbangpun Namul

Breakfast today was rice with seaweed soup, raw sea squirt and a spring vegetable I haven’t had before. It is called Bangpung(방풍). It is a spring herb that only comes out in spring. It has a herbaceous flavor that is a bit like tarragon. It has an almost overwhelming green flavor. It was simply blanched and mixed with some vinegared chili sauce and garlic. It goes well with raw seafood like sea squirt.

It is a unique vegetable. I wouldn’t enjoy it everyday but it is good when you lack greens in your life.
I guess after a long winter having vegetables was a special treat.

Morning Coffee in my Bialetti Coffee Maker

I do enjoy my coffee in the morning. While most mornings I just do drip, I decided that I would make my coffee in my Bialetti Italian Coffee Maker. If you don’t know what these are, they are a pressure coffee maker that you put coffee in a piece in the middle and water in the bottom and then you boil it. What you get is a very strong coffee that is like an espresso.

The extraction makes a very rich coffee that is very concentrated. When you are at home and need a strong cup of Joe, I recommend using a Bialetti.

Stumptown Hair Blender Coffee

My wife surprised me with a new coffee grinder. It is from delonghi and she got it online for about 90,000 won. It’s a good blender with lots of grinding options. The only cravat is that it is a little hard to clean. I found getting a paint brush works best to get rid of the grinds.

I brought back some Stumptown Coffee and I ground it and made a cup. I got three different coffees but the first one was the hairblender. It is one of their famous blends. It is robust with medium acidity with tart lemon hints. It is a fine coffee. Not a bad way to start a Sunday.

I made breakfast this morning. An omelet with some Bahaman spice (a spicy oregano, rosemary salt I got from the Bahamas.) I also made a delicious Blueberry and citron salad with feta cheese. I just used baby greens for the mix. It was quite delicious with the eggs.
