Hope For Haiti: Fundraising Event this Sunday, February 14th

‘Hope for Haiti,’ is a local fundraising event to help the rebuilding efforts in Haiti. The event will take place on Sunday, February 14th at Roofers in Itaewon, starting at 8pm, and will be inspired by the music and culture of Haiti and the Caribbean. (For those of you who are wondering… ‘Why Sunday?’ – we gently remind you that Monday is a national holiday! Hooray!)

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help a grassroots charity located in Haiti, Olive Tree Projects, established by Sarah Wallace, a 24-year old midwife who has been living and helping in Jacmel since 2008. The Olive Tree Projects ( is a charitable initiative focused on children in Haiti. Sarah has made it part of the organization’s mandate to also care for orphaned or abandoned children, provide prenatal care and education for women in the community, provide educational classes on issues such as hygiene, nutrition and the environment, as well as instill entrepreneurial thinking into the minds of those in the community.

Sarah’s home, which also serves as the Olive Tree Projects’ clinic, was devastated by the earthquake and her plans for establishing an orphanage have had to be hastened, due to the current situation in Haiti. The ‘Hope for Haiti’ fundraiser in Seoul will help provide Olive Tree Projects with the resources needed to continue their work with women and children in the community.

Your help with this fundraiser could be in the form of attendance, a financial donation or with gifts-in-kind.

We are planning to hold a silent auction for larger ticket items as well as provide door prizes to those in attendance. If this is a project you would like to be involved in, you will receive publicity of your product/service throughout the evening, to the guests expected that evening. As an official supporter, you would be welcome to provide business cards and/or brochures at the event. Your logo and business name could also be promoted through our various marketing channels, like the event poster and postcard (soft-copy), Facebook and any newspaper or magazine articles we receive.

I bet we can all be creative with this…if you are affiliated with a group or organization…sports team…and especially the media, why not jump on board with this initiative? Please do not hesitate to pay it forward! :0)

Word of mouth, forwarding this to your hundreds of facebook friends and volunteers for postering will be very much appreciated, indeed!!

(Hope for Haiti)’

2S2 gathering – this Saturday – open invitation to anyone in Korea

If the term ’2S2′ is unfamiliar, it’s a get-together of expats and Koreans every 2nd Saturday at 2pm started by Rob from Roboseyo. Unlike most other ‘get-together’ type groups, this one starts at the same place (A Twosome Place near Anguk station – line 3, exit 1), but does something different every time. This time, Rob has given my girlfriend and I the keys to the event for this month – this Saturday, it’s on.

We’ll get started around 11:45am – I’ll meet people at the top of Sinsa station, line 3, exit 8. From there we’ll walk down to the dancing place. If you want to get there on your own, the directions are below.
So what are we doing? The plan is to get together around noon for an absolute beginners swing dance lesson, taught by two English-speaking teachers with years of experience. If you’ve never tried swing dancing before, this will be the class to take – it assumes no previous dance experience or knowledge. Bring your boyfriend, your girlfriend, or someone you like – coming by yourself is fine as well.
From there, we’ll head up to the Twosome Place, hang out for a cup of coffee / tea / sa-ee-deo, and socialize with all the cool people.
Before long, we’ll head out to an ice carving place, where we’ll go through an ice gallery / museum, then try our own hands at carving something out of ice ourselves.
After some dinner, we’ll be off to move our feet at the same place we had our lesson – since we’ll get there early we’ll have the floor to learn a few more moves. Depending on how the night goes we might end with a nightcap, but we’ll play that by ear.
Come on out! If you have any questions, e-mail me at chrisinsouthkorea AT gmail DOT com :)
Directions to the Swing Bar:

Take line 3 of the Seoul subway system to the Sinsa station. Take exit 8 to street level, then walk straight to the J Tower – about 200 meters ahead. Take the first left after J Tower, then the 1st right to walk along a side street. Look for ‘The Swing’ sign and a restaurant with an outdoor awning – take the stairs down just before the awning. The basement is ‘The Swing’.

Where to Watch the Superbowl 2010 in Seoul TOMORROW

This is a repost. BTW, I am going to meeting a couple other football fans at the Wolfhound for breakfast and football. Come out. It starts at 8:25AM

Go Saints and Colts! (that’s who are playing right?)

I received this message from my buddy James:

Hi Daniel,

Before I ask google, I was hoping you can help me with something. I was wondering if there are places in Seoul that will be showing the Superbowl live. It would be a Monday morning for us here in Korea (about 8~9am) so I’m not getting my hopes up… just a spot where I can possibly get a coffee and nurse a short stack of pancakes for 4 hours while I watch the entire game. HA!

So, I decided to send out a couple of e-mails and the first person to respond was the Wolfhound. Yes, they will be celebrating the Superbowl and kickoff is at 8:25am and they’ll be serving their entire menu.

Here’s Wayne from the Wolfhound:

We are planning on being open for it.  This will be our third year in a row showing it.  It kicks off at 8:25am Monday morning if I am correct.  Our full menu will be open however most people order the breakfast.  If they do order the breakfast expect a wait!

We plan on doing a bloody mary special.

Beer O’Clock in Sincheon will be doing something that evening. Here’s Clark from Beer O’Clock.

Hey Daniel,

We won’t be showing the game live but will be showing it in the evening. For the Super Bowl only we will be offering our customers CHILI!!! That means…chili dogs, chili nachos, chili fries and….well just chili!

If you can pass this on to your readers we would really appreciate it! The game should start around 8:30.

I just found out that Yaletown in Sincheon will also be holding a Superbowl Party.

ALSO! Sam Ryans is going to be having a party in the morning as well.
