Damn you Apple! Give me a Steve Jobs Edition (SJE) iPhone SE2

Let's make Apple great again. It's not even about the money. It's the core philosophy of what made Apple such a great company. It is supposed to augment and supplement reality and not replace it. Sorry but I want an iPhone SE2. The size was perfect and I just loved the feel of it in my hands and in my pocket. Dang it. I hate the lumpy block of the iPhone 6s Plus. It was the phone I got because I thought I could use it as an iPad replacement. Nah. Doesn't work. I have the iPad 2018 and it is amazing. The processor on it is so fast and the good apps (the ones without subscriptions) are amazing on it.  I use my iPad for editing pictures and video because it is faster than my MacBook Pro 2015 with an eGPU. I will be buying a iPad Air 2018. It's just too good to pass up. The processor is fast, the body is sturdy and I don't have to use Face ID. I am not a fan of it.  Plus, I can buy one with 256gigs and it is probably faster and more intuitive than a top of...

The iPad is NOT a computer replacement device

I had hoped that the awesomely powerful iPad Pro 12.9 could be my go-to computer. It was supposed to be a creative machine that I could use to compose letters and articles, take and edit photos, take and edit video and much more. It was a failure. For one the 12.9 is too large to use it on the go and I was constantly afraid of dropping it. You can't type on it well unless you are sitting. The Apple Pencil is cool but I lost one so it cost money replacing and then I was constantly paranoid I would lose it again so I rarely used it. Charging via the 12 watt charger was glacial. Now it was powerful but being stuck in the iOS ecosystem didn't make it particularly useful. I spent money on apps trying to get it to do what my computer could do better. The iPad was good for two things: games and watching movies which killed my productivity. So... not very good. Anyway, Apple is supposed to do a MacBook refresh in 5 days. I am waiting. My 2009 MacBook is still fine but it isn...

The iPad Pro is not the Computer I have been Waiting For

In Homeresque fashion let me say, "doh!" IOS as an operating system is not quite ready for prime time, the battery takes forever to charge, its heavy, and its multitasking functions are handicapped. It will need another couple reiterations before its ready for real work. So...for right now I have a very nice entertainment tablet with a pen that will allow me to e inner artist thats in me in the future (I could have done this just as easily with a decent sketchbook and an array of pencils.) Sigh... It's not a complete waste. The tablet is fast and some tasks on it like going through my Flickr account is much faster. For note taking apps with the pencil, its just gimmicky. I want to like it but I can't really justify the high price for something I used to accomplish with paper and a pen.  Also, the IOS versions of Movies and Garageband are stunted as well and I'm just not used to using them yet. Maybe I will be able to find some workarounds but I just n...

Homemade Apple Sauce for my Baby Hazell

My wife told me something something quite revealing today. She said, "Women are expected to sacrifice for their children. They should breast feed their babies, they are expected to make the baby food. They are expected to watch and take care of their children all the time from the cradle to the grave." Growing up in America, I figured that was both of the parents jobs. She told me, "In Korea, the burden of child rearing is mainly on the mothers. Fathers are supposed to support the family financially." On trips to the supermarket, I realized that most supermarkets do not have baby food. You know the little jars of peas, carrots, apple sauce and all the other stuff. Most women in Korea make their children's baby food themselves. My wife has a special machine (which I will have to show you later) that will steam and then mince the food into natural baby food. We are also very careful to have organic and pesticide-free products for our child. Since my baby was about...

The iPad Pro is the Computer I have been waiting for

iPad Pro I have been patient and I have waited a long time for my next productivity laptop. I have used macs for about 11 years now. I purchased my last one about 5 years ago: a 13 inch MacBook Pro. I have debated upgrading to a 15 inch but since it is locked down from upgrading the memory the hard drive and more for more money has prevented me. I like tinkering with it and I like that my MacBooks can be futureproofed for about 4 years. However the new MacBooks don't allow that and while it is a bit faster; they look like typewriters to me.  These days it is all about content production and I feel the iPad pro is the all in one solution. If it is fast enough and large enough that is. It looks like it is fast enough and the large number of apps I have purchased can be put to good use on a bigger machine.  I mean VSCO or enlight is more intuitive to me than photoshop and I have never had a problem with iMovie. Now if I can do it all on one machine, there is no need ...

Tech Stuff: The New Apples Photo App is a Downgrade, Not Upgrade

Apple New Photos App 2015 Just a quick review on this new update by Apple, I don't really see any improvements and there is a serious flaw: you can't drag and drop photos from the app into another application like a blog. You can't even find the file, because it takes the files hostage like it did in the past. The filters and adjustments aren't amazing, I find that Fotor is better and or I would rather just drop into VSCO and back. Plus I think they should have added preview before you import (something Lightroom offers and I find invaluable.) Sigh...I was really looking forward to this but it is just a way to sell you on iCloud (20 gigs for $.99). But why do this option when flickr offers a terabyte for free. Basically, the app is trying to take all of your photos hostage. Been there, done that. I migrated everything to flickr and I will use Lightroom. Oh...thanks apple, my icloud storage is now full. I'm ok with that. I'm moving on. new Photos A...

Geek Note: Do not upgrade to iPhoto 11

Sorry that I'm slow on posts. I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 on my mac and it is a giant load of crapware. It's slow and it lags and it hogs up a ton of memory. I am working on downgrading the program and once it is gone, I'll be back to my regular speed of posts. In the meantime, Seoul Eats is looking for contributors. It is a great way to start blogging or to bump up numbers on your own site. We are looking for photographs, restaurant reviews, food news etc. Thanks for reading! Sincerely, Daniel Gray Come take a cooking class or take a Culinary Tour in Seoul! http://www.ongofood.com

iWant and the iRony of the new Apple iPhone

Yes, readers, I am an Appleholic. I have 2 iPods, 1 iPod touch, an iMac, and a MacBook Pro. In the past i have owned an iBook and the older version of the MacBook Pro. Oh, and I have owned many shares of Apple stock since 2005 which have helped me purchase more Apple products. The one thing I don't have is the iPhone. Yesterday, I was in an Apple store and I was peering into the display because I was just about to purchase the iPhone 3GS. Why did I stop? I mean I had the money and my current cellphone has been driving mr crazy for sometime( do not buy LG cyon's viewty phone!). Yesterday, I forgot my Korean foreigner ID card. I was just about to sign a two year contract for the phone when the salesperson asked me for it. I told him I didn't have it. Now, the salesperson: Yoon, was being a bit pushy and he said he didn't need it and started to tap things into his computer and make a few calls. It was taking a while and I had an appointment, so I to...

iPads for sale in Korea!

Hello, my name is Dan and I'm an Apple Fanboy. Today, I got this tip from a reader (Thanks Tai). It's on Craigslist and the guy is selling a couple 32 gig iPads in Korea for 920,000 won. The price seems right, but what about the product? Honestly, I'm too much of a chicken to find out. I only buy my Apple gear from legitimate sources or from people I know. Speaking of which, my friend Richard is selling his 13.3 inch macbook with 2.4 processor for 1.1 million. Check out Daveseslcafe for more details. Oh, before, I go back to talking and writing about food- I wanted to talk about the new 4G iPhone. I have been drooling over the pictures all day over at gizmodo. 4G iphone I want it. I've been waiting forever for it (that's why I have my stupid LG Viewty Phone. I know, awful). My iPhone sources have told me that it won't come out this summer like the rest of the world because Apple released their iPhone later than everyone else. It would probably come...

iWant: Apple iPad in Seoul, Korea

I am an Apple Fanboy. I mean I've only used Apple computers while I have lived in Korea. They simply fit me. They are elegant, the operating system is visual and stable, and they are powerful enough to do all the multimedia things that I have always wanted to do. Now I really want the iPad. I think that it will really be great for all the work that I do. Most of my work involves working with clients, writing, and creating. Even though I would love to be able to pull out my laptop and just work anywhere, I feel that a laptop needs a desk. I feel like with the iPad, I could walk around and work. With all the food that I eat, I think this great for my health. I love to walk and work. I know this sounds weird, but I like to walk while reading books. Anyway, I think that this product will be useful for cooks and restaurants as well. At this price point, I could see these products becoming the ordering consoles for restaurants and even menus. I could see chefs using these in the kitc...

Macbook Air

I know that this isn't about food, but damn I'm pissed and my friend Jason is right on about his criticisms of their new product. This is from Jason This is what I wrote on one of my favorite forums. I know, I know, it's dangerous to predict that Apple will fail at anything (critics were harsh on the first Ipod, Lolwut). But this, is ridiculous: http://www.apple.com/macbookair/features.html $700 more for *way* less features than a damned macbook? Oh, and $900 for a solid state drive that's *smaller* than the standard one? This is the first time I've ever seen an Apple product (since I started paying attention to them), and flat out said "no fucking way". The whole damned thing is one big product purchase trap. From the website-- "Ahead of the curve. In redefining thin, MacBook Air has shed something you no longer need: the optical drive. That's because MacBook Air is built for the wireless world. So instead of watching DVDs, you can rent movie...

Macbook Air...meh

Meh. Anti-climatic. No wonder my stock dropped 11 dollars. I should have sold at $200.00. This is a product that's going to take 6 months before it makes an impact. I can see the other products in the line changing to become thinner. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pay a premium to be an early adopter of a product when the specs are subpar. The regular macbook is looking like a mighty fine bargain right now since it has the same graphics chip and everything...now I wonder if I can load an 64gig SSD hard drive into it. And this is coming from one of Apple's biggest fanboys. I put off buying a new Macbook Pro and an iPod touch for this product. Now...I think I'm going to go with the touch. Dan
