O'ngo Food Rated Number #1 by Tripadvisor

O'ngo Fish Market Tours O'ngo Culinary School O'ngo Night Dining Tours About 1 year ago today, Jia Choi and I decided to start to do cooking classes and food tours in Seoul. It seemed to be the natural trajectory in the line of work that we were doing. Jia is a professor of food culture and I was a food writer. When we started we had no idea of what we were doing and where it would go, but we believed in the cuisine of Korea and that it would be a draw for tourists. One year later, we are still around and we are doing well. We moved from renting out small cooking studios, to changing our office into one and finally moving into O'ngo Culinary School in Insadong. We are amazed that so many people have come to us to learn about Korean culture and cuisine. Many people have been writing reviews about our classes and tours on Tripadvisor.   To date there are 22 reviews and almost all of them are positive (Yay!). If you have been to a cooking class or tour, pleas...

Dan Can Cook: I Made Butter from Scratch!

Garlic Chive Butter with Red Chili Flakes In preparation for our butter cooking class next Saturday, we have been working on our butter recipes for the class. It's amazing that with just some cream you can turn it into luscious, creamy butter. Oh, and you also have leftover buttermilk so you can make biscuits and breads and pancakes. I'm really excited out our class next week. If you would like to join us, please send me an e-mail. The information on the class is here: http://www.seouleats.com/2010/09/monthly-cooking-classes-at-ongo.html Homemade Butter and Buttermilk

Foodie Meet-ups and Cooking Classes

Dear Seoul Eats Readers, Thank you for messaging me and telling me that I need to do a meet-up soon. I'm sorry, but a lot of my time and energy has been going towards the cooking classes and food tours that I have been running on behalf of my company, O'ngo Food Communications. But, I can't forget about all the people who have read and have been supporting what I've been doing. Thank you so much for reading and getting involved. I'm so happy that there is such an epicurious community in Seoul. Our last couple cooking classes for pasta making and for temple cuisine were a big hit and we will be doing them again. Also, in June we'll have a brunch class, a healthy foods class, a beer making class, and a wine tasting class. I'll let you know more details soon. Cooking Classes in Seoul

Hi Dan, Was looking around the net for information on Seoul eats and dos and found yours for my coming trip, 1st trip. It was very informative. Thanks for all the suggestions and reviews. Should be going to a few of your recommended restaurants. Also saw this little post on 1-day cooking classes conducted in English. Think it was a schedule of cooking classes through to the end of November conducted by Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine, unfortunately i'll only be arriving on the day the last class starts. Went on to the Institute's site but was all in Korean and my random clicks didnt bring up any course information. Wonder if you know of any other Korean food cooking classes also conducted in English that would be conducted in the week starting 30 November? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Have a happy gastronomic weekend! Regards, Gwen  Dear Gwen, Thank you so much for your comments. I'm sure that you can sign up for classes on that day. ...
