Korea Food Trend: Fat Macaroons and Tiramisu in a cup

Tiramisu in a cup and Fat Macaroons #뚱카롱 are all the rage in Ikseon-dong. It's interesting to see how Korea's sweet tooth has developed. Macaroons have been popular for a while but the fat & crazy flavored ones is now an example of k-food (a Korean twist on cuisine). Other popular things have been dirty coffee and falling cheese (like raclettes). In Jeonju Beef jeon: an egg dipped and shallow-fried fritter is the new hit thing. The younger generation seems to have developed an appetite for sweet and super savory.

The other interesting developments is how the designs of the stores are more vintage. Mangwon Tiramisu is a great example since their logo looks like the old new village movement logo. Metal framed doors, dark wood paneled walls, windows with vinyl lettering are popular these days.
