The Colors of Korea

Image
The last couple of years I have been working in a more visual medium. Looking back, I used to just point, click and post. Now I have been composing, thinking about aperture and shutter speed and trying to think of the mood I am trying to convey. I delete more these days. I no longer horde. I have gigabytes of content that I say that I will go through at some point. I haven't and I don't think I will. These days, I love playing with colors and there are so many colors to see and manipulate in Korea. It's a country that never seems to sleep. I don't fear the night anymore. When I look out, I see a colorful jungle that is inviting - but too inviting. There are so many places you can go to behave in any manner you would like. In Korea, one must have the sense to go to places with the right mindset. I think this is one of the reasons why I find living and traveling overseas is worthwhile. All the temptations of the world are out there. You can stay sheltered to them or

Chocolate Cake Coffee Break at Hollys Coffee

Image
Chocolate Cake and coffee break @hollyscoffeekr Cake was legit and had surprising little chocolate-covered cereal pops in the chocolate cream. Dark chocolate pieces were hard which contrasted the soft cake, cream and more. It had enough caffeine that I didn't really need the coffee. Delicious. The atmosphere was great as well for a 24 hour coffee shop. Why do we need offices these days? There was enough power ports and strong WiFi to carry you through the day. Salted Caramel Cake and a free coffee refill at Cafe Jameí

Image
Coffee with salted caramel cake @cafe_jamei. Good selection of coffee. Quaint atmosphere and if you get a hand drip, you get one refill. The salted caramel cake was good. It's getting more popular the last two years as a flavor. It was so 2008 in America. I guess it just takes a while for some some flavor profiles to go mainstream here. Anyang Pork Back-bone Stew

Image
My general rule is if it looks old then it must be good. Anyang Gamjatang is a perfect example. They serve Biji pork spine and potato stew. This version has some tofu...trash. Relax. It's the ground up soybeans after making tofu. It adds a creamy thickness to the pork broth. Really delicious. Worth the journey to Anyang.  [Naver Map] Anyang Pork Back-bone Stew 145 Jangnae-ro Manan-gu, Anyang-si Gyeonggi-do http://naver.me/xe2Lksju #seouleats #koreafood #foodporn #love #instagood #beautiful #food #korea #instafood #instatravel #travelgram  #goodeats #foodblogger #푸드스타그램 #맛스타그램 #맛있어 #좋아요 #냠냠 #데일리 #맞팔 #데일리 #맛있다 #먹스타그램 Sent from my iPad

Food Trend: Malatang Restaurants in Korea

Image
Malatang has gone from Daerim's Chinatown to mainstream Korea. This is quite interesting since Sichuan food has tried before and failed. This time it seems it might stay. The restaurants are hip places for drinking. You can go there for lunch but it's best to sweat it out at night. This place in Itaewon is getting some well deserved fame because their food is tasty and made to order. Their fried shrimp with honey sauce was cracklingly delicious. Their malatang was a numbing burn that needs rice. Very tasty. [Naver Map] Syangnassie 14 Noksapyeong-daero 26ga-gil Yongsan-gu Seoul http://naver.me/xCmHQX5D
