Soju Scene: Drum Line in Hongdae

I did a food tour in Hongdae last night and I was just happening to pass by Hongdae Park when an impromptu drum line just exploded. It was awesome! I just love the big guy to the left with the sunglasses: he has so much energy that he looks like the world could explode any second! Come take a cooking class or take a Culinary Tour in Seoul! http://www.ongofood.com Pictures are taken either with my Panasonic DMC-G2 Camera with 20mm Lens or with my iPhone 4G Join the Seoul Eats Facebook Group Page to keep to date with the latest events.

A Macro World: The Korean 50,000 won bill

I am having fun playing with my camera so here are some shots that I took of my 50,000 won bill with my extension tubes with my Panasonic G2 Camera with 20mm lense.

Oh, the irony

This is an underpass connecting Haebangchon and Gyeonidan that I often pass through. It is often colored in graffiti. The graffiti was once again stripped clean and the graffitier (is that correct?) vowed to not spray paint on this wall ever again. Oh, the irony.

Funny Advertisements in the Subway

Hmmm...Is this a misspelling or an unfortunate acronym? I don't know if this sign is encouraging people to use the bathroom. Ssing New Metro I think the "P" is supposed to be a music note. This next one is hilarious. They are promoting dentistry. Princess or Devil? It's all about your teeth

Rants! Korea is not a Third World Country

Folks, I have to tell you- Korea is not a third world country. As someone that runs a culinary tourism business in Korea, I often encounter people that have never been in Korea before. Or, if they have been in Korea for business or layovers, they have been too scared to venture into the "scary city." When I meet guests, they often seem weary and cautious. Women clutch handbags as if every permed 40-something women holding an umbrella and every pleated-pants-wearing older man is out to rob, rape or mug them. The men often hide their wallets in hidden fanny packs and once I had a guest pay me by taking money out of his shoe. Folks, Korea is safe (except for North Korea...but that is a remote threat much like the idea of Cuba attacking Disney World), we don't have problems with earthquakes or tsunami's (70% of the country is covered by mountains- I think Korea is a corn on the foot of the earth). I often tell my family and friends the North Korean threat is live on CN...

Shots from the Leeum Art Museum

Sculpture by Takashi Murakami The Leeum is one of the most excellent art museums in the world with eclectic architecture and a collection of art that pushes the imagination in new directions. They have an excellent Korean collection that shows off excellent pieces of pottery, sculpture, and paintings. A walk through their Korean collections gives an insight to the Korean collective. Their modern western collection is also top notch with pieces from Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothk, and Yoshimoto Nara. There is also the breathtaking spider sculpture outside called Maman by Louise Bourgeois. Be sure to check it out. http://leeum.samsungfoundation.org/eng/aboutleeum/message.asp Spire Downward Spire Porcelain Maman

Hongdae Station's Old Exit 5 is the New Exit 9

Hongdae Station's Old Exit 5 is the New Exit 9 I just thought you should all know because it confused the heck out of me. Apparently, they opened up the new airport to city subway line: the AREX (which is apparently awesome and only 4,300 won!).

Video: Angry Birds in Peace Talk with the Pigs

This is how I pass the time when I am on the bus, subway, taxi, late at night, on the toilet...Ok, I'm a bit addicted. Hello, my name is Daniel Gray and I'm addicted to Angry Birdsaholic. Check out this hilarious video on peace talks between the pigs and the birds. Come take a cooking class or take a Culinary Tour in Seoul! http://www.ongofood.com

Photoblog: I Love My New Camera: Panasonic DMC-G2

I know, I should be writing about food, but I am just in love with my new camera! For years, I have only used Canon. I had a canon point and shoot and later graduated to the Powershot G9 before getting a Canon Rebel with a 35mm lens. The one thing that I always envied where the colors that Panasonic cameras could get. I finally decided to make the switch when the Panasonic DMC-G2 came out. This is what attracted me to this camera: the processor, the kit lens which was half decent, and the swiveling LCD screen. The main thing, I must admit was the ability to attach other lenses onto the body. I could easily get a lens adapter and add my beloved 35mm lens to the body and even get strange lenses like a CCTV lense with a 1.4 F stop. It's a fun camera to play with and I recommend it. Here are some of my pictures. Flower: taken with a Panasonic DMC-G2 camera with a Canon 35mm lens Anthony Rapp: taken with a Panasonic DMC-G2 camera with a Panasonic Kit Lens

Pictures of Peggy's Cove in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I was lucky enough to meet up with a native Nova Scotian while I was in Halifax this week for the culinary world summit. Mr. Michael F. is the father of a friend of mine, Marie and he offered to show me around the city for the day. We first checked out downtown Halifax. Then we went to Opa! Taverna for a fabulous lunch. After lunch he was even kind enough to take me to Future Shop in Halifax to indulge in my technonerdiness. The highlight of the trip was heading to Peggy's Cove- a beautiful seacoast town. Here are pictures. Enjoy and be sure to visit Nova Scotia! The Lighthouse on Peggy's Cove
