The Colors of Korea

The last couple of years I have been working in a more visual medium. Looking back, I used to just point, click and post. Now I have been composing, thinking about aperture and shutter speed and trying to think of the mood I am trying to convey. I delete more these days. I no longer horde. I have gigabytes of content that I say that I will go through at some point. I haven't and I don't think I will. These days, I love playing with colors and there are so many colors to see and manipulate in Korea. It's a country that never seems to sleep. I don't fear the night anymore. When I look out, I see a colorful jungle that is inviting - but too inviting. There are so many places you can go to behave in any manner you would like. In Korea, one must have the sense to go to places with the right mindset. I think this is one of the reasons why I find living and traveling overseas is worthwhile. All the temptations of the world are out there. You can stay sheltered to them or...

Scenes from Korea

These days I have been lucky enough to travel around Korea and see the changing seasons. I love the mix of the old and new. Here are some of my more recent shots and follow me @seouleats on Instagram for more.

Photoblog: Korea at Night

Here are some shots that I took on a recent stroll at night. I love the Yeonnamdong area since it has so much character. It's full of artists, dreamers and individuals looking to do their own thing. I took the photos with my Panasonic G85 with a 20mm lens. I love the new G85 since it has in body stabilization and a ton of other features like post focus and 4K videos. Anyway. Enjoy and enjoy your day. Dan Flash! Cereal Killer Cake Maker I will give you that no one could see

Snapshots from Seoul: Birthday Cake and Chopsticks and other Shots

Korean Birthday Cake. They eat it wit chopsticks and usually together as a group instead of getting lots of plates and stuff. These days, I am busy working at a Delectable Travels  and it is nice to be part of a good team. For years I worked independently or at small startups. I thought that working at a company was inhuman and against the "entrepreneurial" spirit. It's nice to have support and other opinions to help a business thrive. During lunches and such, I don't have as much time as I used to to find all the best eats. Luckily after work, we can do that. Anyway, these are just some snapshots I have taken and wanted to share with you. I particularly love the first one which is of our team celebrating a colleagues' birthday party. The cake was actually pretty good. It was the banana cake from Paris Baguette. The cake was light and it had fresh marshmallows. Oh, marshmallows are a thing now and I think will be trendy this year. Enjoy the pics. Dan ...

Cherry Blossoms in Korea and Other Signs of Spring

Cherry Blossoms in Seoul A Dog Guarding Shoes I love when Spring rolls around in Korea because there are so many parks you can go to and even in the city you can see things in bloom. This winter (2014) was a bit rough and we had some extremely cold days even March. Which Koreans call this Ggotsaem Chuwa ( 꽃샘추위) which means, winter is jealous of the flowers. Luckily, things are starting to bloom and I was lucky enough to get some pictures of it plus some other shots in my neighbourhood in Gangnam. I recommend that you all take a walk and enjoy the weather these days. Recess in Korea Spring in Bloom

Korean Adoption

Hello Seoul Eaters. Lately I've had the fortunate opportunity to photograph the moment adopting parents meet and pick up their new children here in Seoul. As you know our site founder Daniel is an adoptee so he's asked me to share my work. It's been very interesting, rewarding, and emotionally charged work. The process takes around two years and I just get the apex of a two year build up of emotion, expectation, excitement, and nervousness. All that spills out in a one hour meeting where the new parents finally meet a child they've only read about and seen pictures of, and the foster parents give up a child they've spent years caring for and getting to know. Needless to say there are tears on all sides, and thankfully I'm not in any of the pictures because I'd be embarrassing. The pictures in the small room with big windows are the initial meeting, and the outdoor shots are post-adoption family shoots. Enjoy. For more photos check out my site .

Shots: Bulbs and Brownies

Here are some shots of a cafe in Insadong. I love their colored bulb display and their creative brownie pan that will sell you the amount of brownie you would like. Dan

A Night Out in Hongdae is a Must-have Experience

Hong Cup  Hongdae is the hip street where art, fashion, college life, music, and angst all collide.  There are so many things that you can see. Plus there are many great eateries such as street stalls, barbecue places and bars. Above is the owner of Hong Cup which serves spicy fried chicken pieces in a chili sauce (2,000 for the small and 5,000 for the large). The cup is great because it has delicious tater tots and rice cakes all mixed in. You can even sit and enjoy a beer (2,000 won) or a Somaek (Soju and Beer 3,000 won). Dakbal House Here is another street stall specializes in collagen rice, chicken feet. It's a hit with the ladies and guys looking for something a little spicy. Bukchon Son Mandu Bukchon Son Mandu is really famous for their handmade mandu that is stuffed with Japchae noodles or meat. I recommend their fried mandu and at only 1,000 won a piece, you can't go wrong. The mandu are crispy and stuffed with meat. Besides just the eateries, there are lo...
