A Lesson in Pain: Hongmi Spicy Chicken Feet

The Mistress of Pain at Hongmi Dakbal I asked my Korean friends why they would want to eat something so spicy that it burns going down and later going out. They said that it relieves stress and that it feels good. Hmmm...about a week ago I went to Hongmi Dakbal located over by Sinsa Station for a video shoot. This place is famous for their extremely spicy chicken feet. I am an adventurous eater, but even I cringe at the idea of chicken feet. First of all, there isn't that much meat on them and I always imagine the little claws getting snagged in my throat. The feet are first washed (thank gosh). Then they are parboiled and later stir-fried with chili powder. The chicken feet here is spicy. It's so spicy that my mouth burned the whole time. I can't really describe the flavor of it except burny. There is little meat on the chicken feet and as you nibble, the heat ignites your entire head. The burn started from the corner of my mouth and went to my temples. From the...

Spicy Chicken Feet Eaten in a Tent

Spicy Chicken Feet: Dakbal Seoul Dakbal is a dish that is often enjoyed late at night and often in tent restaurants. The spicy sauce on the gelatinous, bony legs are great for kicking you out of your drunken state. Sure, the idea of eating chicken feet (or feet of any animal) might seem off-putting, but it's pretty good here. Plus the spiciness of the sauce will burn whatever misgivings you might have away. This is the perfect dish for those that are looking for a pepper-induced mind-gasm. Dan Spicy Chicken Feet: Dakbal Seoul Spicy Chicken Feet: Dakbal Seoul

Ridiculously Hot Wings, Fried Pickles and Very Little Salad at Hurricanes in Florida

Ridiculously Hot Wings, Fried Pickles and Very Little Salad at Hurricanes in Florida My sister is a wing connoisseur. She's one of those people that could be in the most exotic destination in the world famous for their local cuisine eating at the most authentic restaurant in the city and she would order wings. So...while in Florida we had to test out the best wings Florida had to offer. Apparently, the best place is called Hurricanes and they are famous for their 30 different sauces- especially their aptly named "Ridiculously Hot Hurricane Sauce." Oh, it's hot. It starts by burning off your tastebuds on your tongue and then spreads to your cheeks and forehead. After a few minutes your face feels like it is about to burn off and you are left in a beautiful state of euphoric pain. It's nice. I should have bought a bottle. They also had fried pickles there- they just added them to the menu. These were good, but I was told not as good as my first attempt at th...
