Canadian Thanksgiving in Seoul, Korea

Canadian Thanksgiving at Dragon Hill Lodge in Seoul, Korea Dear Canuck Friends, After my recent trip to Canada, I am almost ready to turn in my red, white, and blue for the red maple leaf. I found Canada to be a great food country full of great people and I learned a lot. Now I know that Canadian Thanksgiving is coming soon and I wanted to let you know that it is possible for you to get a cooked turkey from the base. Since we don't get vacation days off for Thanksgiving, so getting a cooked turkey or ham off the US military base might be a great idea. Instead of cooking, you can spend time with your country-people and have fun. They are also great deals as well. For $99.95 US you get a whole turkey or ham with mashed potatoes, turkey gravy or bourbon sauce, beans almondine (green beans), dinner rolls, STUFFING, CRANBERRY SAUCE, and pumpkin pie. You can also get extra sides for only $3.95 a pound. They will deliver to most military gates. If you have a car the easiest one to...

Thanksgiving in Seoul: 2009

Thanksgiving Roundup by Brian Dye http://kissmykimchi.com with additional information by Daniel Gray One of the downsides of being an American abroad is that when one of our holidays rolls around you may find yourself waving the stars and stripes alone on the Fourth of July or barbecuing a single hot dog for Memorial day. This tragedy reaches new heights during a holiday like Thanksgiving. Back home we would be surrounded not only by friends and family but tables laden with delicious home cooked dishes like mashed potatoes and gravy, yams, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and, of course, turkey!  Thankfully, for us Yankee Thanksgiving fanatics, there are options in Seoul aimed at Americans as well as anyone else that wants to join in the festivities. Rebecca and I teamed up to deliver you this list of what’s happening so far, of course this being Korea, not all the times and dates are totally set yet. Be sure to call up the restaurants and make a reservation because most o...

Want pie? Can't get pie?

Pie is good. We like pie. Piiiieeeee. As you’ve probably noticed, there is a lack of pie in Korea. Fear not friends, there are some alternatives. Want pumpkin pie but can’t get hold of any before tomorrow (American Thanksgiving)? Want to impress your other Expat friends at a pot-luck Thanksgiving get together? If you have a toaster oven then you can make these pumpkin pie wontons instead. To make 16 of these little treats, you’ll need: * 1 cup canned pumpkin * 2 tablespoons maple syrup (can substitute honey in a pinch) * 3 tablespoons brown sugar * 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (see recipe for pumpkin pie spice below) * 16 packaged wonton (mandu) wrappers * granulated sugar, for dusting * ground cinnamon, for dusting * cooking spray (you can use oil or butter on a paper towel, or use a pastry brush) Recipe: 1. Preheat oven to about 204 degrees C. 2. Mix pumpkin, maple syrup, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. 3. Place one wonton wrapper flat on work surface. 4. Spoon 1 T...
