Shots from the Leeum Art Museum

Sculpture by Takashi Murakami The Leeum is one of the most excellent art museums in the world with eclectic architecture and a collection of art that pushes the imagination in new directions. They have an excellent Korean collection that shows off excellent pieces of pottery, sculpture, and paintings. A walk through their Korean collections gives an insight to the Korean collective. Their modern western collection is also top notch with pieces from Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothk, and Yoshimoto Nara. There is also the breathtaking spider sculpture outside called Maman by Louise Bourgeois. Be sure to check it out. http://leeum.samsungfoundation.org/eng/aboutleeum/message.asp Spire Downward Spire Porcelain Maman

Hyeri Art Village

These days I am feeling very artsy and with my camera I feel like I can capture some great shots. It's a Panasonic DMC G-2. My go-to lens is the 20mm with 1.7 aperture. I really like to play around with the different filters they have built into the camera such as "pure, expressive, retro etc. It's great for me since I am a lazy photographer: I don't like to photoshop. Anyway, I'll get back to food pictures soon, but here are a couple shots of my visit to Hyeri Art Village. It was made by the CEO of Crown Bakery. He has been buying up old "Love Motels" and he is converting them to art museums and artist communes. If you are a photographer, I recommend you head up to this place. Face of Food

Accidentally stumbled into this gallery (couldn't resist the food imagery), I ended up talking to the artists and found out the concept and enjoyed sharing ideas about food and culture. Artists: Choi mi yeon (최미연) Graduation exhibition titled: Face of Food Concept/theme: Using food as a base to observer, comment, reflect on herself and of others around her. Not to get too art geeky, but one of the most powerful things anyone from any culture and background can understand and personally relate to are taste . From the moment we are conscious we harbor and personalize these flavors into preferences. With that as a common denominator, she investigates people and different personalities that are showcased through these preferences. I won't go into anymore detail, but if you are interested in seeing more of her work, please take a look at her blog and I believe she is going to have another show in the Spring. Stay tuned. blog.naver.com/myfood1210 Choi mi yeon (최미연) Face of Food ...

Crescent Moon Makgeolli Cup

The Tin Makgeolli Cup isn't the most flattering container for Korea's famous rice wine. The AT Center, the Agriculture and Trade Center has had a contest to see who could come up with the most exciting new design. Here's one that just takes my breath away. The cup reveals a cresent moon as you drink the white rice wine. Amazing design. Via Korea.net

Here is the Horribleness.

The Cute. It looks like a quaint little Hanok, but... Pretty Creepy, huh? In an hanok in Bucheondong there is a gruesome art exhibition. It was so gruesome in fact that the curator was nowhere to be found. You can find it down the street from the Chicken Art Museum. Dan
