Benefit Dinner for Africa at Patio 9

Charity for Africa Last week I was invited to a Charity Benefit Dinner by Dreamville Entertainment and Team and Team Organization. The organization does a great job of bringing water to villages in Africa. This organization goes to poor African villages that don't have proper water facilities and they dig wells so they can have fresh water to drink, cook, and wash in. The Korean team that went over has helped dig wells and build shelters.  For the event, held at Patio 9 in Apgujeong, they brought in an African musical group to perform for us. It was an amazing performance. In the future, I plan on working with this charity to do a fundraising event. I will let you know the details soon. I hope you will help the cause. Cheers, Dan

Can you bake? Do you like comedy shows?

Hey there! So if you answered "yes" to either of the questions in the subject line, then have I got a deal for you! As some of you already know, I am FINALLY leaving Korea next year and have been making plans for my next big adventure -- I will be participating in The Rickshaw Run in India with Carleen Krug (aka I Eat My Own Muffin) and two others as part of team Rickety Cricket. The Rickshaw Run is a race, for charity, in a tin can, piece o' crap rickshaw from the southern tip of India all the way to the north -- 5,000 km or 3,100 miles in two weeks (April 17-May 1, 2011). Check out the site for more details: http://rickshawrun. theadventurists.com/   We need to raise at least $1500 for the organization's charities of choice, which are located in India and Nepal. However, our team goal is to raise $10,000 or more! Anything that we raise over $1500 will go to a charity organization that we choose. The organization's two charities for the Spring 2011...

Happy Children's Day!

Happy Children's Day! Today is Children's Day. This is the Christmas of Korea when kids get the day off school. Parents take their kids to parks (such as Lotte World and Everland- if you don't have to go there today, don't), buy them presents, and just dedicate the entire day to them. Today I'm going with a bunch of Seoul Eats Readers to a halfway house down in the South of Seoul. We're going to make lunch, clean their house, and give them presents. Most of the kids today will probably feel very depressed because they would like to spend the day with their parents- we hope our gesture will lift their spirits. Also, as a reminder, it's Spicy Wednesday at 6pm at Phillies in Haebangchon. My friend Susanna is cooking curry for charity. Go here for more information: Facebook
