New Webpage and I'm taking a break from Blogger

First of all I wanted to thank everyone that has been reading my blog. It amazes me that people would actually take the time to read what I pummel out on my keyboard. Thanks again. I am going to take a break from blogger for the time being because it is summer break at my school and I don't have access to the school computer these days. I will probably start to update this blog again in the fall, but for the time being I'm going to focus on my iWeb website with Apple. I find that it is very easy to use and very intuitive. So I'm starting the transition now. In my iWeb homepage I'm going to focus more on my writing and podcasting. I feel that a change is necessary to get my creative juices going. Well, I hope you check out my new site. The address is http://web.mac.com/happylunatic Thanks again and I hope will check out my new site. Dan dnlgray@gmail.com

Anti-American on Dave's ESL cafe

There is this idiot on Dave's ESL that is selling an iPod and he says that he won't sell to Americans so I posted a nice little message to him.  Since my message there has been a backlash of messages. Here's the thread: *** I have an older iPod (4th gen). It's 60gb, in good shape, battery life is still high. Asking 225,000 won. **I will not sell it to americans. *** pics/accesories/scratches? ipod photo or no color? ColoUr yes, photo no. No pics, but it looks like any iPod. Just the basic headphones, cable and iTunes CD. No scratches. It has been cared for, but isn't brand new. *** http://www.ipodmods.com/identifying_different_ipod_model.htm#ipodphoto According to these guys there is only 60GB ipod with photo capabilities. *** Elric, didn't I see you in Shenzen, China the other day snatching up all of those immitation iPods?! _________________ "The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to...

Kobayashi edges Chestnut in hot dog contest

NEW YORK -- A 160-pound wonder from Japan set a record by devouring a sickening 53¾ frankfurters in 12 minutes to win the annual Independence Day hot dog eating competition on Coney Island. Dog gone: Kobayashi's winning marks since 2001 2006 53¾ 2005 49 2004 53½ 2003 44½ 2002 50½ 2001 50 The feat earned Takeru Kobayashi, 27, his sixth straight title in the event, held at the original Nathan's Famous hot dog stand on Brooklyn's seashore. His prize: the coveted Yellow Mustard Belt. Kobayashi broke his record of 53½ hot dogs, set at the same competition two years ago. Thousands of raucous spectators jammed the streets in front of the hot dog stand, a block from the famed Coney Island boardwalk, to watch the competition and Kobayashi -- a top-ranked eater who once ate 17.7 pounds of pan-seared cow brains to win $25,000. His strongest competition was Joey Chestnut, a 220-pound civil engineering student from San Jose, Calif., who set a U.S....

RE: How does it feel to be a Korean Adoptee in Korea?

Hmmm...My experience. I guess I blend in very well with my surroundings so I don't get stares or comments.  Also having minimal knowledge of Korean makes me oblivious to most things.  It's not really an issue.  When I mention that I'm adopted the first thing Koreans ask me is, "are you looking for your parents?"  I tell them no and that my parents are in America.  They don't seem to understand that I would consider my adoptive parents my parents.  Most times they ask me again, but to many Koreans this idea- the idea that people that are not of my own blood would be the ones I could identify as my parents.  Sometimes I get this feeling that they pity me and then they often ask me if I've seen the Sunday Night Show.   This was a very popular show that showed dramatic reunions of Korean Adoptees and of their birth parents. I went to an adoption conference this weekend and it's opened up a can of worms that I might have possibly been tr...

The iPod dilemna

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are coming to Seoul!  Really?  I really like their album Show  Your Bones.  Dudley is a great song and so is Turn into.  I really dig their acoustic stuff.  However, I disagree with you.  I think the Sounds sound more like a blend of 80's pop and punk.  I think they're more like Joan Jett and the Ramones' (all of them) love child that was abandoned in Nebraska and raised by Blondie. Or I guess if Abba went on a diet of cocaine milkshakes. I have a confession.  I love Shakira. I know her music isn't mind expanding, but the way she shakes her baby maker and her non mountainous northern hemisphere makes me feel like I'm in highschool in love with April Childress all over again.  But I might have said too much. Do you find with your ipod and so much access to music that you're attention span has been drastically minimized?  I have.  I find so much great music, but I quickly listen to it and then I have to get mo...

8 ways to kill someone with an iPod Nano

EIGHT WAYS TO KILL SOMEONE BY USING AN IPOD NANO, ACCORDING TO EX-MARINE BRAD COLLUM. BY KEVIN FLEMING - - - - 1. Break it in half with your hands (very easy to do) and use the glass viewing screen's broken edge as a razorblade to slice the jugular when they are looking the other way. 2. Take off one sock (a dress or tube sock; pantyhose will work in a pinch), place the Nano in the sock, swing it around as fast as you can (being careful to not hit yourself), and whack the intended target right on the temple. 3. Take the reflective shiny part and catch the sun's ray and shine it in a vehicle driver's eyes, or if you are at a rock concert and the lead singer is prancing around on a center stage that protrudes into the audience like a phallus, you can use the same technique. 4. The cord on the earbud headphones can be used to strangle someone. A knee in the back can give extra leverage. 5. Dig a pit about 5 feet deep, then take about 15 3-foot-long stakes 2 inches in...

Interesting Korean tid-bits

Korea or Corea? Originally uploaded by The_Adventures_of_Stephen_Heckman . My lesson today was on how different cultures have important manners. There is this great website called TOPICS and it has some really great articles written by students that are studying ESL. Here's the link. http://www.topics-mag.com/Electronic/Magazine.html Anyway, we talked about some different country's customs like in Chile they greet each other by kissing each other on the right cheek. One of the students said that she wanted to go to Chile, while another one said that she would punch that person. In Turkey, male drivers are expected to yield to women drivers and give them the right of way. They should also let her have dibs on parking. My students were a bit envious of this because they say that in Korea, male drivers tend to ignore women drivers and even resent them because they feel women shouldn't drive. You know how in America that men should open the door for women? I'...

Brainstorming a play

I am thinking about writing a play about the Korean education system.  Some parts of it will have to do with confusing words in Korean and English.  For example 커피 coffee could be confused by a foreigner by 코피 Ko pi which means nose blood. So a joke could be, I walked into a cafe and I asked for a coffee and and I got punched in the nose. 배추 bae chu sounds like a sneeze.  옥수수 corn just sounds funny.
