St. Patrick's Day Party at Dublin Pub Terrace

Dublin Pub and Terrace in Gangnam had the biggest and best St. Patrick's Day Party in Seoul. Honestly, who can compete with all you can drink Guiness, Riverdancers, and a real Irish band from the Isle? I mean they had the support of the Irish Association of Korea so the place was well staffed and the atmosphere was kinetic. Before an evening of debauchery, it's important to prepare. Many people prepared their bellies with lots of food like Irish quesadillas, Irish French Fries, Irish Kimbap, and Irish Barbecue ribs :) Here is Yunkyeong with her Irish friend (Jo). The step dancers were absolutely amazing. There was plenty of Guinness to be had. I think I drank like 10 of them. Here are the pride of Ireland: the Irish smile^^ It was a great St. Patrick's Day and I can't wait for the next one.  Dan

Seoul Eats Meet up: OK2 Kitchen in Itaewon: Thurs, April 1st

You all know that I'm a fan of this restaurant. I really believe in Chef Susumu Yonaguni's food philosophy. He grows and makes most of his ingredients (he has a farm outside of the city where he grows his herbs and vegetables, he smokes his own salmon and duck pastrami, etc.) Susumu is a advocate for true food and, luckily, he is passing these lessons down to his students. On next Thursday, April 1st at 7:30 PM, Seoul Eats will have the next meet-up at OK2 Kitchen in Itaewon. The chef will prepare a 7 course grand prix menu using the best ingredients available on that day (Susumu prepares food according to the freshest ingredients he can get from the markets and his farm). The price for this meal will be 65,000 (including VAT) per person. If you would like wine paired with your meal (you will get 3 glasses of wine chosen by Sommelier Ahn Sung-hwan) it will be 77,000. Reservations are recommended and you can secure your spot by sending payment in advance to: Bank: 외환은행 KE...

Chef Sean is here with Daniel Henney

Sean is a local Korean chef that recently won a cooking contest for Outback Steakhouse. As the winner he got to travel to Australia to do a commercial shoot in Australia with Daniel Henney. If you go to Outback, you'll notice a poster with Sean and Daniel Henney. Besides being good-looking, Sean is the real deal. He can cook. For his winning dish he smoked a ribeye steak using indigenous wood that can only found on the mountains of Korea.  Anyway, Sean and I are currently working on a series of cooking videos and cooking classes with O'ngo Food Communications . More details on that soon. Here are some of the press pics of Sean and Daniel:

O'ngo Food's Korean Taste Tour is in the Korean Newspaper

http://news.donga.com/3/all/20100322/27003404/1 Shin Minji, a journalist from the Dong-a Ilbo came to the first Korean Taste Tour that we had over the weekend. Even though it was cloudy and dusty, 22 people came out and Jennifer Flinn regaled the crowd with her infinite knowledge and humor. Simon and Martina from Eatyourkimchi was in attendance and so was Anne from Korea4expats . We are planning the next one on April 3rd. Details will be coming soon.

Le Grand Cuisine at Star Chef

Each Meal at Star Chef starts out with a bowl of broccoli with bits of caramelly garlic. The radiant green will prepare your eyes and stomach for the feast ahead. Star Chef is a place I go to to indulge in gastronomic wonders. I mean the menu hasn't changed in a long time, but it's nice to know that you can get great food in the city. The wine menu is something that needs some work. There aren't many exceptional bottles on the menu. Since we were going to have the whole trout tonight, we first went with a reisling. It really couldn't hold up to the spice. I recommend a cocktail or a beer instead. The wine is what it is. Here is the mushroom and beef salad. It is a humongous salad- easily enough to feed two people till they are full. The slightly citrus and creamy notes of the dressing paired well with the savory, grilled morsels of beef. The mushrooms added a earthy note too the dish. The whole cloves of roasted garlic really stand out here. There was one slight problem...

Seoul Eats Mailbag: Restaurant Recommendations, H Makgeolli, and Questions

Hey everyone, as you know, I try to answer all letters that I receive. I figure if someone sends a letter it usually means that there are 5 other people with the same question. So here we go: Hi Dan, Mark has returned to NYC and is enjoying working at Lugo Caffe as we speak. I am here for a few more weeks with some family coming in just a few days. I was hoping you could give me a few recommendations:-) I am dying to have some sushi before I leave with a few friends. Do you know of an affordable and delicious sushi restaurant?
