Vietnamese Rice Burger

Vietnamese Rice burger The Temple of Jawns has a great recipe on-line for a Vietnamese Rice Burger. It looks scrumptious and it's totally homemade. I think that Lotteria, should talk to them about making a decent rice bun.      Here's the Temple of Jawns, Here is another one of my masterful ghetto foodstuff creations; the Pho Rice Burger. You get to have some Vietnamese flavor combined with Japanese food technology here, and that isn't a bad thing. Most stuff would probably be better with some Japanese food technology, to be honest. This ended up tasting honestly more like Pho than any actual Pho that is available in this country, and that is on one hand, sad, and on the other hand, pretty cool, I guess. I'm not gonna become the next oriental Ferran Adria anytime soon, but the overall flavor definitely says 'pho'.... Ok, so to reach the next level, you are going to need a lot of stuff. For those of you in Korea, none of this stuff isn't easy to find h...

Fine Italian Food at Jina and Franco Trattoria

Sometimes I am selfish and I don't like to share where I find my good eats. This is a place that I discovered several weeks ago, but I didn't want to share with you, because...well...I like it too much. Chef Franco and his business partner Jina have made an excellent Italian Restaurant over by Seoul National University. The keyword at this place is fresh. Everything is fresh. The bread that arrives at your table has the perfect foccaccia texture and it is topped with carmelized onions and herbs. The open kitchen lets you see the chefs at work, so it's a bit of a show and a meal. Here is the welcome pizza that Franco made for us. The crust is thin, the cheese is crusty with the good brown bits of baked cheese, the prosciutto is salt-porklicious, and the arugula added just the right accent of green. YUM. Here is the minestrone soup. I LOVE minestrone soup and Franco's is divine. It is full of beans and vegetables in a soft chicken broth. They have carafes of house wine; p...

Dam Dam in Hongdae

Dam Dam in Hongdae is owned by a friend of Hoya's. It's a little hidden away restaurant that serves well-prepared food at unbelievably low prices. I mean have you seen good Pomodoro pasta go for 7,000 won? You can get the Spicy Pescatore for only 7,000 as well (plus VAT) The place is kitchy, so it's a great place for a casual dinner or a first date for University Students. Here is my friend Hoya. She got the pasta vongole and it was a sizable portion. I got the Shrimp Tempura with Indian Curry. The curry is well spiced and thick. I was quite shocked because I expected the yellow abomination that you normally find at a 7,000 won price point. Be sure to check it out They have Pasta and Curry. If you get a set, you get salad and coffee included. There is a 10% VAT added Address: 서울시 마포구 상수동 312-4 #:  070-8848-2595 Directions: Go out Sangsu Station exit 1 and walk until you see the Hongdae Parking lot. Make a right and go down the first alley. It'll be on your...

Samsung Mystic Commercial, starring Apolo Ohno

I was pretty shocked to see this commercial airing during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic coverage. It is showing on American TV (NBC) and is an AT&T commercial about a Samsung phone, but still... Samsung + Apolo Ohno? The best part is the tagline at the end. "When you're the fastest, anything is possible." Does the Korean Netizen world know about this? I can't even imagine the outrage, considering how little Koreans think of him, and the backlash that would create against Samsung. Or would they blame AT&T? If you are unfamiliar with the controversy around Apolo Ohno and the Korean speed skaters, Marmot's Hole has a brief summary of the most recent developments. (I made an identical post on my own blog) Hello from America all my friends in Korea! by Lunalil (now based in America and missing affordable Korean food)

Korean Sticker of the Day: Don't Take SH%$ Anybody

I think that's advice we should all follow. Now I don't know why this guy is kneeling on the ground looking like a steaming turd. Dan
