Eat Cherries

Daniel Lee Gray

They are so good. Sure, they are a bit expensive (7-9,000 won) but they are in season. I even got a weird mutant cherry in my mix. I think it's trying to be a seedless cherry. I would make a pastry or a tart with the cherry, but I don't have a pitter so it's hard to get the seed out. I think it would be awesome to make a cherry stuffed chicken with brie cheese. What do you think? Too experimental?

i was browsing through some korean blogs and stumbled upon yours.

i went to e-mart the other day and nearly had a heart attack when i saw the prices. i couldn't get myself to spend $10 on cherries. i could've probably finished the little packet in two minutes. i miss having a big bowl of cherries during the summer back home in the states. :[

  2. I talked to some people who have been in Korea for a couple of years and they say that cherries used to be even more expensive in the past. My friend Erica says that she saw a gift box set with 2 cartons of cherries that cost 70,000!

Thanks for reading! You know what I miss? Blueberries.

  3. I love brie and I love cherries. If you were to try this, I think it would be best to do it with chicken breast (kind of like chicken gordon bleu?). Otherwise the cheese will melt inside of the carcus and then you have a pool of brie and cherries at the bottom of your pan instead of with the chicken meat? If you do this, definitely take pictures and post the results!

Have you thought about a cherry stuffing? I think that would be excellent. Ive heard of that being done before.

Personally, My favorite is cherries on the stem by themselves! Fresh cherries are hard to beat!

  4. ooh i'm jealous!

brie with cherries... i think it's totally doable. i mean, it works with cranberries. : ) but that's a pretty pricey homemade stuffed chicken, by korea standards! it's ridiculous what fruit cost in the dept stores... i.e. $10 cantaloupe.

ps. watched the trailer for be kind rewind - haha.. if i figure out how to get a hold of it here, i'll def take a look, thanks for the rec! : )

  6. If you think thats expensive, I read an article a couple weeks ago about a Japanese business man who bought a "black melon" (only grown in northern Japan) for $6500!!!

It was no different from the other melons, not like a world record or anything.
