Fooled you! Sun-dae or spelled Soondae is a pork blood sausage that is stuffed with sweet potato noodles and typically served with steamed liver and other innards. It's not as bad as it sounds. It's actually pretty good. Anyway, I went to a restaurant in Gangnam yesterday with my Korean class (I'll get you the name of the place and location soon). The food was alright. They try various healthy fusion techniques on Korean food. This octopus sun-dae was one of the more exciting offerings. Now I've had stuffed Jokbal (pig's feet); this was the first time to have octopus. It was stuffed with a flour, vegetable mix with a bit of sweet potato noodle. I found that the flavor really didn't work and the texture (the overly chewy exterior with the mushy soft interior) wasn't very pleasant. It was a good idea overall. I'll give the chef marks for that.

So do you not like Sun-dae at all? Or do you jus not like the octopus variety?
ReplyDeleteI like Sun-dae, I just didn't like this particular experiment. Watch anything new on Mysoju recently?
ReplyDeleteIm really into "You are my Destiny" it started when I was in Korea last month. Even though I cant understand most of it, I love watching the characters and how they react to things. Now that I can understand the words its even better! If your in Korea its on KBS1 at 8:25 (wierd time) Monday-Friday.
ReplyDeleteIm also trying to get "Likable or Not" to work. I cant seem to get it to download in Africa. I guess I'll have to try it when I get back the US. Likable or not used to be on KBS, but just finished last month. I watched this when I was in Korea in October and January. I had to have my Korean friends tell me what was going on sometimes.
As much as I love Koren food, I think you and Cheri have the market cornered pretty good on that. Plus you guys are still in Korea (so lucky). I think Im going to start blogging about Korean music and dramas.
Oh I found the Hangul of the shows:
ReplyDeleteTitle: 너는 내 운명 / You Are My Destiny
and
Title: 미우나 고우나 / I Hate You, But It's Fine
Also known as: Likeable or Not
Of course there are the classics of:
Kim Sam Soon
and
Full House
As for movies, you definitely need to check out:
My Sassy Girl (its a chick flick, but its from the guy's perpective and you totally feel sorry for the dude cuz he's head over heels for the girl)
i'm sorry but that looks/sounds disgusting. :-P
ReplyDeleteCheri,
ReplyDeleteThat was funny, I laughed out loud at work! As you should know by now living in Korea. Never judge a food by its looks..lol.
Most Americans would look at Korean food and be totally disgusted. But as us "insiders" know, the average Korean food is way better then the average American food :)
