Do you know this boy? He is Sungha Jung and he is a major talent on the guitar.
The festival was amazing, but not really a jazz concert at all. Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova, and the Frames don't really play jazz- they just play good music.
The one sad thing was that this was basically an exact repeat of the same concert they gave 5 months ago. I mean the even had MATE- a Korean cover band play again. I will admit that the addition of Sungha Jung was cool, but I was hoping to hear some new music or old music.

Here's Sungha Jung
I went to the 'stylish jazz night' on the thursday. Omar Sosa completely blew me away. I loved his deep down, tribal. Bought a cd i am more than happy with. However, Incognito was NOT jazz in much of any way (just having a horn section does not automatically make you jazz)but was more of a pop group. We were so dissapointed in them we left halfway through.
ReplyDeleteIn the end, it was worth it anyways to hear the fascinating music of Omar Sosa.
By the way, how can it be a festival with no festival-type activities other than the concerts?? was their some kind of street fair or something that i was unaware of??
