    i always thought it meant meaty and not greasy tasting because 담백질 means protein.

  2. Protein is 단백질 (not 담백질). ^^;;;
    I usually translate 담백하다 as 'light', but in a different sense from volume. For instance a light salad can be literally translated as 가벼운 샐러드, but 담백하다 is usually used for cooked foods.
    I like the 'clean' translation as well, although I've never heard it actually used in English. What western dishes would be described as clean?
