Gorgonzola Pizza in Hongdae at Storia by Lauren McPhate

Gorgonzola Pizza at Storia in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea Storia Hongdae Written and Photographed by Lauren McPhate On a chilly autumn night I went in search of pizza in Hongdae. After a few disappointing experiences in Hongdae the past, I was hesitant. After some wandering I stumbled upon an Italian place next to GR8 hookah bar and Ting Tings. Storia. I peeped in. It looked decent, so onward I went. It’s a very modern space with hardwood floors, funky blue water glasses and cool hanging light fixtures. The front windows peeled away to let in a breeze, and there were blankets on each chair for those who didn’t appreciate the crisp fall air. The place was pretty crowded for a Sunday at 6 and I noticed a lot of young couples. I figured this probably translated to good, cheap food. The first thing on the menu to catch my eye was the set meals. Set A was comprised of bread, drink (juices and coffees, which by the way are all free until 3pm), a choice of soup, salad, a choice of ...

CLOSED La Taco in Samcheongdong by Lauren McPhate

La taco in Samcheongdong CLOSED La Taco by Lauren McPhate When Dan told me a new taco place had opened in Insadong I was instantly intrigued.  I’ve tried Los Amigos, Taco Taco, On the Border (a favorite happy hour jaunt back in DC), and Dos Tacos in several locations, and I find it’s ok but it’s just not the same as home, and you generally have to go pretty far out of your way to find it.  I find it’s expensive for the portion size, too.  Shouldn’t there be leftovers?? Not to mention overflowing amounts of guacamole?  And cilantro?  Remember cilantro?  So on a rainy Sunday afternoon I made my way up to Insadong to try out the newest of the tacorrias. You find La Taco in a cute little alley filled with coffee shops and restaurants.  It has a sweet little sign tempting you to come in.  Once inside, you’re not disappointed at your dining decision.  It looks like a cute café right out of New York.  Checkered black and white tiles,...

La Vert Review by Lauren McPhate

Seoul Eats is always happy to have people contribute their honest reviews of restaurants. Here is one from Lauren McPhate on La Vert- a new brunch place in Haebangchon across from Phillies. This is her first review (and hopefully not her last). We should encourage her to keep writing and eating by leaving her a comment. And if you would like to contribute to Seoul Eats, send Daniel Gray an e-mail at seouleats at gmail dot com. Lauren and crew I am a brunch fanatic. It's a time to gather friends, hook-ups, and strangers, all around one table to dish about the night before. I joke that I moved to HBC for Indigos. Where else in Korea can you find a complete brunch menu and wine for just 3,000 won?! The problem as of recent has been a lack of accomodation ("NOOOO, we can't substitue salmon for ham on your eggs benedict!") and a lack of space. Ever since they switched back to being open on Sundays, it's always questionable whether or not you and your new 8 best frie...
