Really California Sushi and Rolls at Snowfox (Gyodae exit 8)

Finally a decent rice roll place in Korea. It's a fast casual concept but stylish and good. It has a California flair with lots of avocado and rolls that are well balanced and not just sopped in sauce. Nice cuts as well. I got a great California roll that was big enough for lunch for 7,000 won. I will be back Snow Fox by Gyodae (Seoul National University of Education Line 2 and 3). It's right outside exit 8.  37°29'34.7"N 127°00'48.3"E https://goo.gl/maps/KB3hWnB8rEo

Oh the Horror: Fruit Jam Sushi

Fruit Jam Sushi You know that you have no place in the kitchen when you basically just give up and serve an abomination. This is gross. What you have is a rice roll filled with carrot and cucumber covered in cherry jam, blueberry jam, and honey mustard (I guess that is a dessert food after all). It was so gross looking that I had to try one. The rice was mushy and the jam too sweet, the vegetables tasted wrong in this food bomb. I guess somebody liked it, because they were all gone by the end of the night. Dan

My Favorite All You Can Eat Tuna Buffet in Seoul

Cactus Liquor with a Tuna Eye Ball at Lee Chun Bok Cham Chi I have a confession. I don't list all of the best restaurants on this website because there are some restaurants I would like to keep to myself. These places are very much for the locals, so don't go in there being all loud with your "English" and requests for forks and French-style service.^^ Go in and try to act like a local. So if I introduce this place to you, I hope that you'll be on your best behavior. Ok? Good. Korean Tuna Buffets are some of the best eats in Seoul. You get as much white tuna, red tuna, and tuna belly as you can eat- along with tempura, sushi, salads, and kimchi. The one problem is that often the tuna is cooked semi-frozen. Now you can be patient and wait till it thaws or...I recommend you go to Lee Chun Bok Cham Chi (Lee Chun Bok Tuna). The place is always busy, but don't worry, the wait is never long and it is always worth it. The place is boisterous and loud and ful...

Sushi like it oughta be: quaint and flavorful

Hana: Japanese Cuisine from New York I have been tricked by sushi restaurants in the past in Korea. The Korean idea of sushi seems to be big rice bombs doused in mayonnaise and other sweet sauces. This isn't something common just to Korea, but something I saw in Malaysia and some places in Japan as well. I think it has to do with the reverence for rice in Korea. Rice is the most important part of the meal and the sushi reflects that. Now the one place that I found that I could get the simplicity of sushi I was searching for was at Hana (하나) Restaurant over by Seoul National University. Salmon Avocado Salad at Hana We started out with a Salmon and Avocado Sushi and it was exactly what was stated. It was chunks of Salmon tossed with ripe avocado and balanced with green onions and a tart sauce. Oh, and the popping sensation of tiny fish eggs made this dish exactly like I have eaten in NYC. Spicy Tuna Roll at Hana The Spicy Tuna Rolls were nice with the crunch of cucumb...

When Food Bloggers Meet

I was lucky enough to meet Zenkimchi and Fatmanseoul for lunch last week in Myeongdong. It was fun because Fatman took us to a place that had conveyor belt sushi for 1,900 a plate. It was great because the fish was of decent quality and cheap. I had some nice mackeral there and I could tell that the chef had skill because it didn't come out all limp like at some subpar places. You'll have to ask Fatman for where the place is. Also, I went to Breadtalk for the first time and...OH...MY...Gosh... I can't go back there. It's just torture because the food is just so good. They have a Choco Granache that's a chocolate bread stuffed with chocolate and then coated in chocolate and it's good. Also they have bread with pork floss. Pork Floss!!! I didn't try it, but next time...Oh...next time. You can find this place by making a left at Krispie Kreme.
