Open Thread: Where did you eat this weekend? How was it?

This weekend I had a bit of a day off on Saturday so I headed up to the Hongdae Area near Hapjeong with my friends to take photographs and eat food. The places I checked out were: Cafe The Air, The Fingerfood Bar, and Le Four. Pics and directions are coming soon. On Sunday I had 2 food tours, so I ate mostly Korean food all day. Good weekend and good eats. How about your guys? Any recommendations? Retro Oven Pain De Chocolate It was an excellent foodie weekend as I had to quickly do some stories for a couple of writing assignments that I had so I had to stomp all over Seoul to get pictures, do interviews, take notes, and eat. Above, you can see the Pain de Chocolate from Retro Oven over by Gangnam-gu chong Station. It was flaky and delicious and oh, so chocolatey. You can see a picture of Chef Pack below holding up some of his other goodies. I also went to Flora in Hyojadong for some black bean calguksu- it was alright. The highlight of the weekend was steamed shellfish at Gyomokgil! I'll be putting the information on how you can find these places soon- but I have to get back to work for now. Sooo... Noodle Soup So, I'm curious: where did you eat over the weekend? Anyplace good or bad? I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was pretty busy with different meetings and cooking classes. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Jolly-Lebey, who is a well known food critic in France. He was a very kind and insightful man and he really liked the restaurants that we went to. I also had mugwort noodle soup at a place across from KTO. I don't remember the name of the place, but it was in a seafood broth and flavored with beef. Very nice. I went to Mamacitas- a new Mexican Place opening over in Apgujeong. The place has promise and they have good tequila. I had coffee and dessert with Mr. Benjamin Joineau at his restaurant, Le Saint Ex. He has excellent espresso and his apple tart was perfect with it. Le Saint Ex is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year so he has many dinner specials and contests this month. I visited Story of the Blue Star in Insadong- my favorite makgeolli place ...

McDonald's Quarter Pounder at the Itaewon McDonalds It has been a foodie's weekend. After this weekend, I have to do a lot of exercise, because I went way over my recommended caloric intake for about a week. Friday was dinner at Chez Simon: Fresh Oyster, Pumpkin Soup, Mushroom Pasta, Steak, Creme Brulee, with red wine and espresso Saturday: Early Morning Fish Market Tour so I had flounder sashimi at 9am. Then I ran back to the cooking studio to help with the Warmth: Vegetarian Thanksgiving organized by Jessica and Ryan. Great event. The menu was: Salad, Sweet Potato Latkes with persimmon chutney, Pumpkin Risotto, and gingersnap cookies. That evening I had makgeolli and tofu and kimchi with a friend. Sunday : For breakfast I had kimchi chiggae sans rice. Lunch, as part of a story to find the best steak in Seoul (any recommendations?) I went to Sam Ryan's for a Ribeye Steak and to try their "Tour" breakfast with a New York Strip. Sam Ryan has good steak and ...

Dear Seoul Eats Readers, These days numbers are up and so are comments, so I wanted to invite everyone to share where they ate over the weekend. Let us know the skinny: was it good, bad, mediocre? Share so we all know. As for me, on Saturday, I made Chicken Kalguksu for breakfast (just a taste, because I had to help with a cooking class). For lunch I had Korean tuna sushi rolls at a place in Insadong (I don't remember the name but it was down the alley across from McDonalds). The place was good and I'll be posting a video about it soon. Sunday was very interesting. I was writing the recipe for Mushroom Hot Pot for a food stylist and helped clean and prep. That evening we stopped at a road stop to have rich soybean stew (doenjang chiggae). All in all, a very Korean food weekend. Let us know where you ate in the comments!
