After school snacks and a game of chess.

Being a father means that I have to be a chef/nutritionist/entertainer. Of course I would love to feed them all veggies and healthy stuff but sometimes you just have to get fuel into the tank. The Yakut yogurt is a staple...sigh. I have made my own organic yogurt drinks for the kids but it went to waste. The macaroons are for color and the grilled cheese is cut kid size. The cheese is organic so I guess that is ok. At least they ate it all and later I snuck veggies into their rice and soup. Afterwards Hazel and I played a game of chess and she is starting to understand the rules.

Kimchi cooked in pork fat, pork cooked in kimchi at 시골김치삼겹살

I know. It looks like a red hot mess but if you are in Korea you have to get kimchi and pork belly bbq. Kimchi cooked in pork fat and pork cooked with kimchi is an amazing combination kinda like salted caramel ice cream. It doesn't sound like it will work but it does. My favorite ones are in the hapjeong area on the north west part of Seoul. Get the pork belly and the jowl. I love the curry powder to dip it into as well. After you eat all the kimchi and the pork use the bits to make a fried rice with some fish rod and roasted seaweed flakes. Amazing. The only one problem is that you will smell like kimchi and pork fat (but is that a bad thing?).  [Naver Map] Sigol Kimchi Grilled Pork Belly No. 1 Main Branch 110 World Cup-ro Mapo-gu Seoul http://naver.me/I5licTYR #kimchi #시골김치삼겹살 #seouleats #koreafood #foodporn #love #instagood #beautiful #food #korea #instafood #instatravel #travelgram  #goodeats #foodblogger #푸드스타그램 #맛스타그램 #맛있어 #좋아요 #냠냠 #데일...

Egg Omelette Kimbap

Jinsunja Rolled Omelette Gimbap is one of my favorite comfort foods. It is like an sesame omarice in a chopstick-friendly form. There are many imitators but the pickles and thin slices of fillings in Jinsunja's kimbap make it stand out from the rest. There are franchises around the country. Ask for extra pickles.  #진순자계란말이김밥  Bongcheon Main Branch 19 Cheongnyong 1-gil Gwanak-gu Seoul http://naver.me/F7wEOfpk

Is the Gomtang at Hadonggwan Worthy is a Michelin Star?

Hadonggwan's gomtang is still made the same way it always has. Well, at least the first one is. The broth is rich yet not overpowering and the quality of the rice is top notch. It's a very good lunch but I do question it's inclusion in the Michelin Guide. Mainly because the focuses is only on the main dish which they haven't changed for over 70 years. Without the backstory, it might not live up to expectations. It's a great baseline dish for Korean cuisine, but I feel it's more nostalgia than being the pinnacle of Korean cuisine. I was lucky to interview the family that runs the restaurant and the have a meticulous way on sourcing ingredients and in preparation. The dining experience itself is jarring. Once you enter, you are asked how many people. Then you must order at the counter and pay before you sit. 2 minutes later your food comes out without any explanation. Water is self service as well. I do recommend visitors to go there, but understand it is quite...

RIP Molly Holt of Holt International

It's a sad day that Molly Holt passed away. She dedicated her entire life to helping orphans and Korea. When her father and mother felt they needed to provide medical care, she went to nursing school and got a degree and returned to Korea to help the sick and needy. She lived in Ilsan where she continued to care for the less fortunate. The Holt organization was formed because there was no one helping Korean orphans. Without the efforts of Molly and her entire family, I and many others would have had a very different life. I am grateful for their help. I send my condolences. Molly, Rest In Peace. Thank you, Dan  https://www.holtinternational.org/magazine/2013/07/17/the-woman-with-miraculous-tears/

Moon Hotteok at Jeonju’s Night Market

The Night Market in Jeonju is an amazing food market. On Friday and Saturday night they open up food stalls to sell all sorts of traditional and new street foods. Moon Hotteok has the nicest and most optimistic cooks and the nut-stuffed caramel donuts( hotteok) are amazing.  [Naver Map] Jeonju Nambu Market Hanok Village Night Market Jeon-dong Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si Jeollabuk-do http://naver.me/xaDWn5bw   #seouleats #koreafood #foodporn #love #instagood #beautiful #food #korea #instafood #instatravel #travelgram  #goodeats #foodblogger #푸드스타그램 #맛스타그램 #맛있어 #좋아요 #냠냠 #데일리 #맞팔 #데일리 #맛있다 #먹스타그램

The Coronavirus Wars: Doomsday Preppers mixed with Storage Wars and Pawn Stars

So how does a food blogger and tour operator get into the whole medical supply industry? I had a guest who was in the business. She had some mask for sale: the 3M ones. So I helped her hook up with a buyer for that and yeah it's been non-stop ever since. In the in the three weeks since I've started I've seen the masks sell at wholesale prices from $1 to up to $7. Retail they sell at $10, $15 dollars and more. The 3M masks are most desired. Maybe is because of the endorsement of the medical community. This crisis has caused a shortage in supply and a high increase in the price. People are buying and hoarding, they wait until they feel they can make maximum price and then sell. Usually they would sell in boxes of 20 and now they're going by piece. People believe these masks are going to prevent catching the Coronavirus. I know that this is not the case. The only thing that will prevent this virus is cleanliness and awareness. The 3M masks for medical professional...

South Korea is in Street Food from the makers of Chef's Table on Netflix

Wow! The trailer of Street Food Asia by the Creators of Chef’s Table finally came out! It looks great and I love the heart and message of it. It is amazing to see a small part of it since I helped work on the Korea episode. It was a long process and we pitched dozens of ideas but I feel Korea is justly represented. Thank you to Ursula Collison and Tamara Rosenfeld for working with our crew to get the green light on the Korea episode. Out of 195 countries in the world we were 1 of 10. Thank you to my amazing local crew: Hyemin, Yoonie, Junhee, Taesan and everyone else. Thank you to Yoonsun Cho, the Park family from Pakgane, the Four Seasons Hotel and Hong Lim’s banchan store. Thank you to Brian McGinn for making it all the way to Korea. Geez... too many people to list. Watch the episode and see it on April 26th on Netflix. Spread the word.

Kimchi Salt

Yoonie's family has a salt farm off on the island of Palsae off the south western coast. It is artisan-made sea salt that is harvested by hand and aged for 3 years. The salt in the region is regarded as one of the important ingredients in making kimchi. We have been selling it wholesale to companies in Korea, China and Japan for decades. We are currently in talks to bring the salt to Europe and the Americas. If there are others looking to purchase salt, let us know and checkout our website at www.kimchisalt.com

Eskimo Bap: New Lobster Flavored Snack by Nongshim

Eskimo Rice 에스키모밥: it's a new lobster flavored snap and it has my vote for new trendy snack. It's a little spicy but with a surprising buttery flavor. I also love the lobster shape. Coronavirus & the Mask, Medical Supply Business

A lone Korean Kid with Coronavirus mask I got into the medical wholesale business because a past food tour guest of mine had a medical supply company. She asked me to help source Korean masks. Now we are helping to supply hospitals, governments and other medical supply companies with 3ply surgical & N95 masks, infrared thermometers, safety goggles, hand sanitizer, and much more. Clients include the Hong Kong Government, the Red Cross, Holt (in process) and many others. On principle we have not been over charging customers since the mercenary markups are unethical. Staying honest and transparent is how we have gained customers and clients so far (thanks Mom and Dad for beating that into me). Careers change and who knows how long I will stay on this path. Whole selling these supplies at a moment of crisis is not an easy path but I believe that it will help people and create awareness which will help rid the world of the virus. The masks, sanitizers and goggles can only do ...

Damn you Apple! Give me a Steve Jobs Edition (SJE) iPhone SE2

Let's make Apple great again. It's not even about the money. It's the core philosophy of what made Apple such a great company. It is supposed to augment and supplement reality and not replace it. Sorry but I want an iPhone SE2. The size was perfect and I just loved the feel of it in my hands and in my pocket. Dang it. I hate the lumpy block of the iPhone 6s Plus. It was the phone I got because I thought I could use it as an iPad replacement. Nah. Doesn't work. I have the iPad 2018 and it is amazing. The processor on it is so fast and the good apps (the ones without subscriptions) are amazing on it.  I use my iPad for editing pictures and video because it is faster than my MacBook Pro 2015 with an eGPU. I will be buying a iPad Air 2018. It's just too good to pass up. The processor is fast, the body is sturdy and I don't have to use Face ID. I am not a fan of it.  Plus, I can buy one with 256gigs and it is probably faster and more intuitive than a top of...
