Restaurants: Jungsikdang: New Korean

Milano Seafood Jjim I've been meaning to put up the rest of my pictures from my most recent visit to Jung Shik Dang. Their new restaurant is over by Shindang near Samwon Garden. You can find directions to their location on their website. I went to this restaurant with Chef Nick Flynn from the Intercontinental and my friend Terry. Good company and very...creative cuisine. This is my third visit to Jungsikdang and I have to say that I am a bit worried about the franchise. The food is beautiful. The setting is stylish and beautiful and the staff and service is top notch. Oh, they have a great wine list as well. In the past, I have criticized the service at this restaurant. Now they have really taken this to another level. The service and atmosphere is actually worthy of a Michelin Star. The food is, well...did I use the word creative already? Let me explain. When Jungsikdang first opened they had a variation of their current signature menu with the foie gras pate with pista...

Restaurant Recommendations and tips for Travelers to Seoul

My favorite Naengmyeon (cold noodle restaurant) It's called Ojangdong Heungnam jip. 2266-0735 The map is here, but...it's best if you take a taxi, and call the restaurant. The driver will take you right there. Jung shik dang for high end Korean contemporary cuisine. 02 517 4654. Amazing food and it's really playful and inventive. Suraon for Royal Court Cuisine. Here is a map, but if you are a new traveler it probably means you can't read Korean so... It's on the opposite side of the Express Bus terminal (Express Bus Terminal Subway Station) over by Marriot Hotel in Seoul. These days, I've been getting quite a few e-mails from people that are heading to Seoul for vacation. These travelers all seem to be quite hungry, so I am going to give you recommendations for new visitors to Seoul. The restaurants on this list are picked for people whose palates are not quite Koreanized. Feel free to add to the list if you'd like. TRAVELER'S TIP:   Rent a...

Photoreview: Club MOW at Dosan Park in Apgujeong

So, a friend of a friend recommended this place in Apgujeong and it's in the very stylish Dosan Park area. In this area you'll also find Wooriga (recommended), Gorilla in the Kitchen (it's alright), and it will soon be home to Jung Shik Dang's new restaurant (I can't wait). So, I had very high expectations for this place (uh, oh, foreshadowing...I'm going to write a review on this place later.) The restaurant has very high ceilings and there is an open kitchen. It's very inviting and luxurious. The meal starts out with apple slices coated with a grain and topped with jujube. The dish was crunchy and...forgettable. It didn't seem like they put too much effort into it. The settings and the restaurant is great. The scroll to the left has the menu which is served coursed-style. The bottle has makgeolli. Here is a dodeok salad. This was very good and it had a creamy, herbacious flavor. Next came the salad with raspberry wine dressing (bokbunja). T...

Where to get your Christmas Dinner 2009 Part 1

I don't believe that it is already December. I've already been getting Christmas requests from people. MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY! CHRISTMAS IS ONE OF KOREA'S TOP DATE HOLIDAYS.  If you don't make your reservation early, you'll be out of luck.  High-End Most of the hotels will be holding Christmas Dinner's with Hotel Specials. I recommend the W-Hotel and the InterContinental Hotel. W-Hotel's Kitchen always has a great festive Christmas spread and the InterContinental's Marco Polo and Table 34 for great for couples. I've also been to the Hyatt for their other holidays and I'm a big fan of their food and their view. Pierre Gagnaire will probably be rocking as well. Top Cloud is a major date destination at this time so be sure to book your reservation early.  I also recommend Gourmet Eo in Cheongdam, Ristorante Antonio, and Jung Shik Dang in Dosan Park Chef Meili in Itaewon will definitely be having a Christmas Dinner. This is where I have had...
