Exciting News: Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie is coming to Korea and

Daniel Lee Gray

Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie is coming to Korea in October and

I need your help! I am the consultant for the Korean episode and I am in the midst of planning the show. I can't be there for all 8 days. (They'll be here from October 9-16). And I am looking for foodies and interpreters to help with the show. Some of the Korean guides will appear in the show to guide the camera men through the restaurants, and different foods that Korea has to offer. There will be some traveling involved and I don't need someone for all 8 days, so if you have a day off or some time, and would like to see how a TV show is made this would be a perfect opportunity.

You will be compensated for your time. It won't be much, but there will be food!

Also if anyone has any recommendations for restaurants, markets, or people that you know in Gyeong Ju, Seoul, or Gwang Ju in Jeollanamdo, please let me know. We are looking for locations to shoot and for people to help guide.

Ideal candidates should be able to speak Korean and English and have good camera presence. You can contact me at seouleats@gmail.com

Dan

Here are some clips of the show.

  1. Okay, I don't get it. I don't know how many times I see these "Famous people contact me because I'm an expert" posts followed by "Please help me."

Are you an expert or not? And if not, why are they contacting you when it's obvious you are way over your head.

I don't see the other bloggers doing this. People maybe aren't contacting them, or maybe they just keep quiet about these things and don't make fools of themselves in public or feel the need to do namedropping to impress others.

Maybe food blogging is a different thing. As a journalist, it just strikes me as unprofessional.

Okay. Rant done. I do enjoy your blog, though.

  2. Grace, I take it you are a journalist. The kind of story these people are looking for are not from professional sources and the show is trying to go for more "personal stories" from local people.

There are other more "professional sources" that I am pursuing as well. I'm not an expert. I am someone passionate about food that has been asked to help put together a show.

  3. It is great to see Korean food getting some international exposure!

    Grace-

I think you were more than a little harsh on Dan. Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern contacted me simply because my blog was easy to find and my blog is not a food blog, just a "mommy in Korea" blog. The researchers of these traveling shows do not speak the languages of the countries they travel to (they travel all the time, it would be impossible).

It is much easier to find expats but they would rather use locals. An expat can be the key to help the show get to the locals. I don't think it is bragging or unprofessional to put out a call to get help in making these shows the best representation of Korea and Korean food possible. Most people in the West have no idea about what Korea is like.

Also, by asking for help, Dan is "sharing the wealth" of exposure for the good of the show. If he were focused on his own ego he would keep these things to himself. Plus, if you read the post, he says he won't be there for all 8 days of filming so the show definitely needs other people.

Finally, it IS fun to be contacted by ANYONE through your blog. It is part of the interactive process of blogging, as is commenting.

Glad you still enjoy his blog as I do, too! Keep the posts coming, Dan!
