Russian Gostiny Dvor is a Russian Restaurant that was recommended by my Russian friend Elena. Now she says that this is one of the few authentic Russian Restaurants in Korea. It’s over by Dongdaemun Stadium Station Exit 7 (Sorry my mistake.) and this area is like little Russia. Most of the stores have Russian signs. There are Russian Groceries nearby too.
Russian food is very hearty and the taste ranges from sour to wholesome. I wouldn’t say the stuff that I ate was really spicy. It’s excellent food for winter.
Selyodka pod shuboj is like a layered smoked salmon and lox dish. It has beets on top and then a layer of mayonnaisse, potatoes, I believe onions and then a smoked fish on the bottom. The flavors all together merge into a very pleasant medley of flavors. The subtle potatoes are sweetened with the tart beets and then you get that smokey fish pop.
Solyanka is a slightly sour soup with sausage, olives, cucumbers, and paprika and topped with sour cream and green onions. Delicious as well.
Farshirova niij perets- stuffed pepper dish.
Sorry, for the quick post, but I have to get ready for work. Thanks for reading and does anyone know of any Ethiopian restaurants in Korea? I've heard there is one. I just don't know where it is.
Dan
Thanks for sharing this information!
ReplyDeletecan you give me the exact location? really wanna to go there.
ReplyDeleteI gotta check this place out! Loving' that Solyanka. Is there sour cream in there? Sometimes Russians put mayo in the borscht. Gotta make sure.
ReplyDeleteThere was real sour cream and the cheese was quite good as well. It was kinda sharp like cheddar and it had nice body.
ReplyDeleteDel, you want to go out exit 7 and make a U turn and then make a left. You will see the building on the right and the restaurant is on the second floor. I think you'll be able to find it.
Here is the number to one of the other restaurants that they own. 2269 7505. I'm sorry, but they ran out of business cards when I went.
Dan
The directions are completely incorrect, I think... I looked everywhere and saw no Russian anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's Dongdaemun Stadium exit 7.
ReplyDeleteYup, I went there looking all over for it too T.T even called Jason who also said Dongdaeun Stadium exit 5, anyhow eventually after my walk in the humid hot sun of Seoul I realized that it must be "Dongdaemun Stadium Exit 7" But still we couldn't find the restaurant so we just went to another one called Samarikand. However, that's when I realized you said they have 17 locations (one of which I've been to many times by my home in Anam ) Next time I will for sure read the comment section.... I learned a valuable lesson today ^^
ReplyDeleteI just realized my typing error. The point is, don't go to Dongdaemun station. YOu have to go to Dongdaemun stadium station.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the confusion everyone. I've fixed it on the blog. Thanks for the help and excuse my laziness.

ATTENTION!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is an important update about the location. I really felt like having some Russian food, so I googled "Russian Restaurant Seoul" and was directed to this page. You all MUST know that Dongdaemun Stadium Station no longer exists (I know... don't mean to confuse you guys further). The station's new name is "Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station." If you all don't believe me, you can check on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongdaemun_History_&_Culture_Park_Station
So, yeah... I thought you guys should know, otherwise you'll spend all day on the Seoul subway trying to find a station that no longer exists. It's still exit #7, though... I went there today and the food was EXCELLENT. The only bad thing is that it's rather small and they always have a DVD of Mikhail Zadornov playing in the background. Hopefully you all don't understand Russian... otherwise you'll understand how annoying he is.
