Revisited: Mercado Brazilian Restaurant in Sinsadong

Our company had our end of the year party at Mercado Brazilian Restaurant in Sinsadong. It's located across from Cinecity there. The food was exceptional as always and I ate way too much meat. I particularly love their picanha (top sirloin) and their alcatra (rump steak). The chicken heart aren't too shabby either. What makes Mercado stand apart from other Brazilian Restaurants in Korea is their attention to quality and authenticity. They have real Brazilian chefs. The sauces are delicious- I particularly like their red pepper sauce. The green verde sauce is nice as well. This is one place that doesn't try to pass off grilled hotdogs as real Brazilian BBQ. Dan Here are some past reviews on the restaurant. Review: Mercado Brazilian Restaurant

Take a Stake through the Rump at Mercado, Brazilian Steakhouse By Daniel Gray Lee Min-Hyuk, owner of Mercado Brazilian Steak House believes in authenticity. Having lived in Brazil in 3 years, he has done his best to bring the true churrasco experience to Seoul. In order to properly recreate this experience, he has even brought Brazilian chefs to Korea to create a festive atmosphere with plentiful amounts of meat. Here, the meat is the meal and the show. While you are seated, you will see an assortment of sides and sauces. There are pickles, salsas, buttery rice, mash potatoes, and a salad. These are there in case, you get tired of eating plate after plate of freshly charcoaled meat. The one side you might ask for seconds on is their red, spicy pimenta sauce. Made with red peppers, garlic, vinegar and whatever else, this sauce was the perfect accent to the garrisons of meat that came forth. The meal starts when you see large a Brazilian man brandishing meat that has been run t...

A Weekend of Good Eats: Brazilian and American

It was another great weekend of friends and food. My good friend Suji of Suji's Restaurant was back in town and what that generally means is that we have a lot of fun. Saturday morning started with a kimchi and bulgogi class in the morning and after cleaning up (strangely, I am back to washing dishes even though I now am a business owner). Lunch was at a Korean restaurant we were testing out for our taste tour and at night we had another Night Dining Tour. One couple on the tour were adopting Korean kids so I really wanted to meet them. We get a lot of people on the tours of people that are in Korea to adopt Korean babies and I am always very happy to meet them. It makes me imagine what my parents were when they were thinking about adopting me and my sister.  After taking them to my favorite makgeolli place, I had to rush off to meet Suji. We were scheduled to go to Patrick and Emerson's going away party on the embassy compound. I got to meet them while I was working with Am...

A Few Words about Copacabana Brazilian Restaurant by Manuel Lara

Good place. not classy, but comfortable. not cheap, but not too expensive. not amazing, but damn good The man is a poet and a scholar. If you recall, Manuel was the guy who did the big Brazilian BBQ review back a couple months ago.  I haven't been yet, but I've heard good things from 1) Manuel and 2) a local chef. What I've heard is that the meat is good, but the side dishes are just so, so. Has anyone been? The interior looks very nice. The meat looks a little too polished for my tastes. I like mine rare, sitting in a pool of blood. It's by Itaewon Station, where the old Sid N Mel used to be. Go out Itaewon Subway station exit 1, make the first right and make a left. Photo-Restaurant Review: Mercado Brazilian Churrascarria in Seoul

Mercado Brazillian Churrascaria is located in Hakdong near Doosan Park. The closest subway is Gangnam gu-cheong, but it's a bit of a hike so I suggest you take a taxi. The place is only open from 4:30 to 10:30 everyday (except Sunday) and they are always packed. Reservations are definitely recommended. The wine list is alright and pretty reasonably priced. My group ordered the Archangel 2007 Shiraz. It was a bit earthy and mossy for me. It needs to breath (maybe for 30 minutes or so), but it still wasn't my favorite to go with the beef. Meh...at least the name and label was cool and this Australian wine didn't have a picture of a damn kangaroo or koala on it. Here is the main roaster. It literally looks like hell, but it makes meat roast perfectly. The high heat sears the outside in a beefy crust, and the meat inside keeps it's succulent juices. This roaster does heat up the whole restaurant, so I recommend you get a table to the front of the restaurant. We were sitting...

Who has the best Brazilian Churrascaria in Seoul? by Manuel Lara

Who has the best Brazilian Churrascaria in Seoul? by Manuel Lara What exactly is a Churrascaria, you might ask? Churrascarias are Brazilian style all-you-can-eat steak houses.  Churrascarias typically offer a variety of meats, which have been strategically placed on long skewers and are slowly roasted over hot burning charcoal. The grilled items usually include : Picanha (rump cover steak - a cut of beef which in many countries is considered to be the best part of the steer), sirloin steak, sausage, chicken and, depending on the Churrascaria, other items which can range from chicken hearts to lamb, turkey, potatoes, or pineapples. Unlike a buffet, at a Churrascaria the food is brought to your table and keeps coming at you until you politely tell the waiters/chefs ( gaucho chefs ), that you are done, or until you simply turn your green table marker over to the red side indicating that you are satisfied and/or in danger of a ruptured stomach. Now that you know what a Chur...

Quick Review on Sao Paolo

My friend went to Sao Paolo the other night and here's what he had to say about it. You can find the wine menu here, because he's a bit of a wino. Here's Manuel: I went there yesterday, got their card for future reference the phone number for reservation (which actually is good to have) is: 02-764-6079 They put my friend and I in one of these cozy private booths with curtains,so that was quite nice. I have to say decent price nice atmosphere, quaint and decent food, and if you buy one beer the rest is free after that (of course i know another restaurant which does the same deal if you print out their coupon). But in the end so far this one is still my favorite churrasco: http://www.menupan.com/Restaurant/onepage.asp?ACode=R105773 Here the quality of meat ( rumored to be Korean beef) is excellent and they just don't stop coming at you. The wine list is not too shabby (decent prices). I'll try Mercado tonight.

Sao Paolo: A Brazilian Restaurant in Daehangno, Seoul

If you want them to keep bringing you meat, then leave this sign up. It means give me more. If you turn it around it says, you've killed me with meat. Here is my friend Kat enjoying some grilled meat. Here is the cook cooking off a slice of Picanha. Oh it was soooooo....good. Brazilian Churrascos are the new hot cuisine in Seoul and I recently went to Sao Paolo in Daehangno. It's easy to find out of Hwehwa station exit 1. You cross the street and go down the alley next to the Puma Shop. So what did I think? Pretty awesome. I ate a whole lot of meat. I particularly enjoyed the Picanha: a Rump Cover steak. (It's the cut of meat the man is cutting above.) The meat is richly marbled and the method of cooking makes it very "fluffy." What I mean is that the vertical method of cooking makes the fat melt and it leaves it very rich in flavor. Meals are around 25,000 a person. Be sure to check it out and tell them Seoul Eats sent you! Dan
