36 Hours in Seoul: Food LSG Sky Chef's Culinary Tour

I was asked by KTO to write a few articles on the topic of Korean food for their website, Koreataste.org . Here is my latest on the culinary tour for the LSG Sky Chefs. I was lucky enough to be invited to the culinary tour for the  LSG Sky Chefs . These chefs were to getting a 36 hour crash course on Korean cuisine by attending cooking classes and then travel to a fish market, a kimchi factory, a soy bean farm, and to do a restaurant tour. These chefs manage the food for most of the major Airlines such as: Lufthansa, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Asiana Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Korean Air, and Aeroflot. The company manages about 30% of the worldwide airline catering market. This is a true boon for Korean food since these chefs handle the meals of millions of people flying around the world. 15 chefs from the company that handle different aspects of Korean food such as menu planning, frozen foods, localization, and product...

Food Tours Featured in the Washington Post

When Washington Post Reporter Michael Alison Chandler came to Seoul , I was lucky enough to help her with her story on the night dining culture. Through the course of several nights, her friends and I went exploring the streets and alleyways for the best eats in Seoul. Her story encapsulates the dining culture. Michael, thank you so much for your wonderful story. Here is an excerpt: Go here to read the rest Korean dishes, like superheroes, are traditionally granted special powers. Kam ja tang, a potato and pork-rib stew, is a hangover cure. Chicken feet will improve your complexion — just ask any teenage girl. And grilled eel or chicken soup with rice and ginseng are among the many dishes that servers will earnestly tell you are “good for stamina.” After a five-month stay in Seoul, I’ve decided that the last quality is not simply innuendo but a key survival skill if you live and work in this tireless metropolis, where even dinner can be an eight-hour marathon. Korea...

Jesus Loves Kimchi

Jesus Loves Kimchi Yesterday at our cooking school, we had a special guest: Jesus. He came to our cooking class at 10am and then did our barbecue class at 2pm. Then because he enjoyed them so much, he joined our night dining tour that night. Jesus loves Korean food and Korean alcohol and partying like a Korean. Cheers, Dan Jesus Loves Bindaetteok Night Dining Tour

The last few months have been very busy for my company.   Our last project was to design culinary tours in Korea for tourist coming to Seoul for Korea Tourism Organization . I was lucky to be able to invite press for one of our tours so we brought in Chandra Ram from Plate Magazine, Brian Lio from Jetsetzero , Benjamin Jackson from Seoul Magazine and Yonhap News, and Cho Jae-un from the Joongahn-ilbo newspaper . We were so lucky get such a talented group of people together and I think they enjoyed themselves. Here are two articles written by Jae-un Cho from the Joongahn-ilbo Newspaper. Thank you so much Jae-un! Korean Drinking Culture

Bottoms up! Korean Soju Shots I just wrote an article for Koreataste.org which has been kind enough to ask me to write for them on a regular basis. The site is one of the best sites I have seen so far for Korean food. It's new (It has only been open since August 15th), but it has a wealth of content on the site. I wish that I could make Seouleats that organized. Anyway, I'm a writer and I'm happy to write for them. Here is an excerpt of the article. Jump over to their site to read the rest. Please vote (Give a Thumbs up!) and leave a comment. It makes the site administrators (and me) very happy. When our company, O’ngo Food Communications ( www.ongofood.com ) started our night dining tours, our concept was to introduce real Korea to tourists and have them experience the culture through the cuisine. It has become our most popular tour with over 200 participants. We start our tour around the shops of working class people around Kwangjang Market. As night falls, t...

The General of Kwangjang Market Plays Sax!

When Rudy Maxa of Rudy Maxa's World Came to Seoul, the General of Kwangjang market played him a show. This guy has been at the market for many, many years and he always goes around and plays the saxophone. He's a very nice man- possibly a bit off, but very nice.  You can see great characters like him on our Night Dining Tour.

Plum Wine with Live Octopus

Last Thursday, I took a group of foodies out for a night dining tour.  They decided that they wanted to have some live octopus, so that's what we did. It was a great time and it was a lot of fun trying to watch them pick up the squirming, slippery, moving pieces of octopus. I'll be running Night Dining Tours on Wednesday-Saturday Night if you would like to join, Cheers, Dan Plum Wine Live Octopus Tempura Spicy Fish Soup
