CLOSED La Taco is serving up Mexi-Korean Food

Pulled Pork Tacos at La Taco in Samcheongdong  La Taco in Samcheongdong Lauren McPhate's last review of La Taco wasn't very exemplary. Here's a quote from the review: "My taco was very tasty, although I don’t think I would call it a taco.  It was a veggie wrap.  There were onions, lettuce, veggies, cheese and sour cream wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.  Very nice, but not quite a taco." The restaurant owner, Maureen, was a tad upset and I went to talk with her to see what she was doing at the restaurant. She said that she didn't think the review was quite fair since she had many other items on the menu that she felt were much better. When I went she presented me with a brand new Mexi-Korean concept. You could get moist pulled pork stewed in Korean red chili paste or spicy chicken barbecue with sides of fresh pickles, green chives, sour cream, and tortillas. It was a fusion of Korean tastes, table manners, with Mexican flair. I was intrigued.  ...

Mexi-Korean! Thursday Night Dinner Party at O'ngo Culinary School

O'ngo Culinary School, Seoul Korea The new O'ngo Food studio opened last week and we enjoyed a week of classes and visitors to our new space. Last Thursday, we had a team building exercise class with a Franciscan Kindergarten in Seoul. They worked in teams and did a cooking competition. Over the weekend, we did tours and custom classes. One of the most interesting tours I did was with 9 members of the clergy from Alabama. This group was a ton of fun and boy could they drink. This Thursday, we are going to start a Thursday Night Dinner Party (August 12, 2010) at our cooking studio at 7pm. You can come at 6:30 to watch us in action preparing the meal or if you would even like to help make some dishes. The menu for Thursday is going to be a Mexi-Korean Party. The tentative menu is going to be: Red Chili Chicken Tacos (Dakgalbi Tacos) Mexican Pulled Pork Sliders Korean Melon Salsa (Chamwei Salsa) Mexi-Korean Mixed Rice (Spicy Bibimbap with Mexican accents) Watermelon...

Fan Mail! Hi Jennifer

Hey Seoul Eats Readers, I love getting fan mail and I always try to answer them as soon as possible. One reader, Jennifer asked: since last week, i've had this unsatiable craving for pommes frites, but have not been able to find a place that sells belgian fries anywhere. =( do you know of a place you can recommend? oh, and one more question. do you know where i can buy real cheese? i.e. cheese that does not resemble kraft singles slices and posseses actual substantive taste to its existence? i have no cheese(s) to eat with my wine. brie and apples! gruyere! super crumbly blue cheese i always forget the name of! For Pomme Frites, I recommend Mignon behind the Hamilton Hotel. I t has great food and the patio is wonderful to sit out on during the Springtime. I recommend getting the mussels with the pomme frites. If I recall, they might have come automatically as a side. For real cheese, it's around everywhere, but I've been noticing it has been getting expensive. Cheese can be...
