Vegetarian in Korea presents: Sobahn Cafe, Berlin, and Petra's

Vegetarian in Korea is a great blog written by Chalica Pack. She is a regular contributor to Groove Magazine and someone I enjoy dining with. These are the articles that appeared in this month's Groove magazine. Check out her blog at www.vegetarianinkorea.com  for pictures of the restaurants. Dan Vegetarian Friendly Restaurants in Seoul Written and Photographed by Chalica Pack This article comes courtesy of Groove Magazine in Seoul Finding vegetarian friendly restaurants in Seoul can be a bit challenging if you don't know where to look. Let me try to point you in the right direction with three of my finds to get you started. Sobahn Cafe Cafe Sobahn is owned by one of  Korean's largest food companies (CJ Foodville) but when you step inside, you feel like you are in a down to earth, back to basics eatery. Part of that feel comes from the greenhouse that greets you when you walk in-they grow many of the sprouts they use on their dishes. The greenhouse shows ho...

Letters to Seoul Eats: Kosher restaurant in Seoul?

Here is a very interesting question and one that I think requires some thought. I know that there are Kosher restaurants in Seoul, but not too many. Also, some of the restaurants such as Indian Restaurants that you would think would be kosher, sometimes are not. Does anyone have any recommendations? Here's the Letter: Mr. Gray: A friend of mine, who is Jewish and Orthodox, will be visiting Seoul on business.  I heard some time ago that a Kosher restaurant had opened in downtown Seoul, but I have not been able to find any description of it online.  Do you know if such a restaurant exists, and if so if it is worth recommending? Sincerely, Joseph Dear Joseph, I know that Sultan Kebab and Petra's in Itaewon are kosher. Dubai and Arabia are kosher as well. I recommend Sultan, Petra's and Dubai. Now, one of my favorite places are the Nepalese places such as Everest and Durgas. Besides that I would recommend the vegetarian places and fish places. Balwoo in In...

Petra's Restaurant Outing with Vegetarian in Korea

I went to Petra Restaurant with Vegetarian in Korea , her husband, and Kat. We got a mix of everything and it was good as always. Their Tatoush salad is exceptional because it has lots of plush, crisp parsley, lemony couscous, and tart sauce. They have excellent falafel and hummus as well. It's been a local favorite for years and it is the best kind of food to have when it gets hot. Dan

Random Pics: Hummus, Burgers, The Wolfhound, Ramen, and Chicken

I have been taking all of these photos and I just realized that I haven't put them up on the web yet. Here's what I've got. With exception of the Dakgalbi, the restaurants are all located in Itaewon. First, you've got Hummus from Petra's Shwarma Shop. The Jack Burger from the Bistro Corner. Yum... The Wolfhound has reopened and the bathrooms are excitingly nice. Go drink a beer in there now. Ramen from 81. They have the best Japanese style ramen in the city and if you eat the huge, huge bowl in 20 minutes; it's on the house. Dakgalbi near Sookmyeong. I took my friend Jonathon there and he loved it. Yum

Random Pics: Sludge, Flowers, Kebap and Pork

I'll just go through and explain the pictures. These days I'm all about the brined pork loin that I'll then roast and slice thin to make sandwiches. Once cured, the loin will last 2 weeks so they make a lot of really good sandwiches. My topping of choice is samjang with a bit of soy and garlic and sprouts. Petra's Sharma Shop in Itaewon has the best Turkish Coffee. The couple of drops before you hit the sludge is the best. Cherry Blossums are pretty at night. Sultan Kebap in Itaewon.
