Edamame Phone Bling or "Where do you get all your wonderful toys?"

Here is the guy with his truck: The Flying Dream Here is what I bought from they guy. Here is the exit: Eujiro 1-ga Exit 6 I buy them from a truck outside Eujiro 1-ga exit 6. There is a guy that is there on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the evenings and he has lots of cool Japanese toys. He's got a bubble wrap simulator, rubber chickens, Mario and Luigi memorabilies, and my favorite: the edamame phone bling. When you squeeze the pod, a little bean with a face pops up. So Cool! Dan

Toast is wannabe Fresh Baked Bread

Here is my fresh baked honey wheat bread straight out of the oven. I used a simple recipe from Bigoven.com My bread pan was a bit long so I divided my bread into three parts. Here is one of the sections. I love the smell and the taste of fresh bread right out of the oven. The bread is very lush and soft and it is perfect with the black cherry jam. I have to say, this has been the perfect Sunday. I taught a class early this morning so I didn't sleep in all day. Then I came home and made a salad and a steamed tofu dish. Then I did some work while drinking coffee from Cafe Vita. I ended the day by making bread and I think I'll use the bread for a couple sandwiches tomorrow. Dan

Photoblog: The Korean Taco Truck in Seoul

Don't worry, the 3 chefs have their clothes on. Here they are. They speak English well and I think they might have studied overseas. W4,000 won gets you a beef taco, chicken taco, or chili dog. It's not bad for Itaewon. Oh and look! They have all the spelling right. Here is their piquant salsa. It is definitely homemade. The finished taco is overflowing with goodness. You can catch the Naked Chef Taco truck in Itaewon on Friday and Saturday Nights. They usually park in front of the Hard Rock Cafe. If you see a puke yellow truck passing through Itaewon with "Naked Chef" written on the side, don't puke. They serve up some pretty mean tacos with homemade sauces and salsas. Dan

Photoblog: Fortune Cookies in San Fran's Chinatown

Here is the front gate to San Francisco's Chinatown. There is a huge contrast between the stylish and unified San Francisco street to... This hodge-podge of colors and signs. Ok. maybe this picture doesn't really illustrate what I mean. I really like the perspective here. Here are the classic red lanterns on the building. The woman's shirt is very interesting here. It reads Uardian/ Heavens/ +ching B/ Lead Me. Kids in the toy store. Cheri and I are about to go to the very famous Chinese Cookie shop. Here we see the woman making the cookings. The machine will bake the flat cookies and while they are still hot, she'll use the metal stick and pull down on the sides. and that's how she gives the cookie the classic shape. Someone else will insert the fortunes after they have cooled.

Dan Can Cook: Couscous with Roasted Pecans and spicy tomato tofu

Couscous is one of the easiest things to cook in the morning and the little pieces of pasta are little sponges for flavor. I recommend you sauteed a little onion- shallots are better- in olive oil and then add the couscous and brown then lightly. They you just add hot water, cook for 1 minute, cover and turn off the heat. In 5 minutes the couscous will be done. I like to top it with roasted pecan powder and some nutritional yest. Tofu. Tofu is amazing. It can be used in so many ways and I just learned of a new one. If you put tofu in a pressure cooker for a while, the water in the tofu will leech out and the tofu will have a heartier texture that is almost like gouda. The sauce is simple. It's just a dished tomato with soy sauce, fish sauce, maple syrup, red pepper powder, garlic and green onion. Dan
