Where Jesus and Buddha Hang out: Om Restaurant and Bar

Buddha, Jesus, and a Peacock at Om Restaurant Beautiful Interior at Om Restaurant I was recently invited to Om Restaurant by the owner of the restaurant K.P. Situoula. Apparently, he had been a fan of my blog and wanted to introduce this restaurant to me. He told me that he felt it had excellent Indian food in Seoul for good value. I am a huge fan of Indian Food, so I was happy to accept his invitation (and the challenge) so I headed there with a friend for dinner. His ornate restaurant is in the posh Samcheongdong area and it is right next to Jubilee Chocolatier and one of my favorite dessert places J's Cake . It is on the second floor and once you enter, you'll instantly be blown away by the interior. The lush, red color and the decorations make you feel like you are in a Harem. I know that in many of these places, I warn that the food often is secondary to the decoration, but I was here so I had to try the food. It is quite impressive though. I sat down...

CLOSED Le 75 in Hongdae More Information: Pictures, Prices, Address

Chef Mattieau at Le 75 King Crab at Le 75 I got to talk with Matthieau yesterday and he sent me some more information about his bar. The dishes are a la carte so they range from 25,000 to 55,000 a plate and it is a sharing plate that you can have with wine or beer. It's what I am naming a French Izakaya, because he is serving good food with wine or alcohol. The place is open from 6pm till whenever people start leaving. The restaurant is on the top floor of the building. Here is the address: 마포구 서교동 331-21 4층 (우) 121-836  The phone number is 02.324.5731 but he says he doesn't have a phone yet so you can call (ladies use it wisely.) his cell 010.4044.7510. I would call ahead to make sure he has reservations. Directions are easiest if you go out Hongdae Station exit 5. Make a U-Turn and make a right. Cross the street and you'll see Le 75 on the top floor. On the first floor is a octopus restaurant (쭈꾸미) and on the 2nd Floor is Dune Restaurant. Cheers, ...

Review: Brunch at Amandier

Eggs Benedict at Amandier Amandier in Insadong is a good little bakery that is pushing the bounds of all the different food that they make. First they had macarons then cakes, chocolates, breads, pastries, a full coffee bar and now they are moving away from sweets and into savory. They have been serving gourmet sandwiches for some time now and now they are even doing brunch. On one particular Sunday, I ordered their egg's benedict. It was big. 2 perfectly poached eggs over brioche with hollandaise sauce. Lots of hollandaise sauce (almost too much) and regular ham. It was well seasoned and the yolk spilled out - like it should- when you cut open the egg. The bread was hearty and fluffy enough to sop up the sauce and the egg and the ham was alright. My friend got the cappuccino with a croissant- very European, I know. This was also good. One little quip though, they didn't offer butter with the croissant- that was extra. It's a good place to go for brunch with nice atmo...

Indian Lunch Set at Taj in Gangnam

Taj in Gangnam Taj in Gangnam serves a good, ethnic lunch for only 10,000 won. The service and atmosphere are always nice and it's nice to have something other than kimchi and rice for lunch.  Now they probably don't want me to tell you this and they'll probably change their policy soon, but they do allow substitutions. I got a chicken curry instead of shrimp just by asking. It's a good place to go for lunch. Taj: Gangnam Wosong Bldg 2nd floor Seocho-Dong Seocho-Gu Seoul  Tel : 02)533-2693~4 / Fax : 02)533-2694 http://taj.co.kr/ Directions: No. 2 subway line : Get off at exit 5 at Gangnam station. -> Turn right second alley. -> Go straight 50m.

Dinner in 1 minute: Ottoggi Mul Naengmyeong

It's summer time, so I don't really want to cook. Actually, since I work all the time around food I almost never want to cook at home. That's why I was so happy to find a quick meal that was somewhat healthy that could easily be prepared at home. Ottoggi Naengmyeon can be found at most supermarkets and you get two packs for bag for about 4,500 won. To make one serving, you get a bag of buckwheat noodles, some turnip kimchi stock and some vinegared mustard. It's easy enough to make. Boil the noodles for 40 seconds rinse and cool off and then pour in the chilled broth and season with mustard. It literally took 1 minute. Ok, maybe 2. And the taste? Very good. I mean it would have been better with some slivered cucumbers and some pear and a hard boiled egg, but...my refrigerator doesn't have that sort of stuff.  Plain was just fine.

Photoblog: Chef Matthieau of Le 75

RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED Chef Matthieu of Le 75 A restaurant that I got to preview about 2 weeks ago has had their soft opening and they are ramping up. The food is excellent and all made by Chef Matthieu. The chef asked me to try not to write too much about him because he says, "I'm shy." But also, he says he needs time to perfect everything. I can understand. So instead of doing my normal write-up, I'm just going to tease you with some shots of his food. I'll tell you that the place is in Hongdae.
