Eskimo Bap: New Lobster Flavored Snack by Nongshim

Eskimo Rice 에스키모밥: it's a new lobster flavored snap and it has my vote for new trendy snack. It's a little spicy but with a surprising buttery flavor. I also love the lobster shape. Pretty good. Follow me on social media @seouleats.com

Coronavirus & the Mask, Medical Supply Business

A lone Korean Kid with Coronavirus mask I got into the medical wholesale business because a past food tour guest of mine had a medical supply company. She asked me to help source Korean masks. Now we are helping to supply hospitals, governments and other medical supply companies with 3ply surgical & N95 masks, infrared thermometers, safety goggles, hand sanitizer, and much more. Clients include the Hong Kong Government, the Red Cross, Holt (in process) and many others. On principle we have not been over charging customers since the mercenary markups are unethical. Staying honest and transparent is how we have gained customers and clients so far (thanks Mom and Dad for beating that into me). Careers change and who knows how long I will stay on this path. Whole selling these supplies at a moment of crisis is not an easy path but I believe that it will help people and create awareness which will help rid the world of the virus. The masks, sanitizers and goggles can only do ...

Damn you Apple! Give me a Steve Jobs Edition (SJE) iPhone SE2

Let's make Apple great again. It's not even about the money. It's the core philosophy of what made Apple such a great company. It is supposed to augment and supplement reality and not replace it. Sorry but I want an iPhone SE2. The size was perfect and I just loved the feel of it in my hands and in my pocket. Dang it. I hate the lumpy block of the iPhone 6s Plus. It was the phone I got because I thought I could use it as an iPad replacement. Nah. Doesn't work. I have the iPad 2018 and it is amazing. The processor on it is so fast and the good apps (the ones without subscriptions) are amazing on it.  I use my iPad for editing pictures and video because it is faster than my MacBook Pro 2015 with an eGPU. I will be buying a iPad Air 2018. It's just too good to pass up. The processor is fast, the body is sturdy and I don't have to use Face ID. I am not a fan of it.  Plus, I can buy one with 256gigs and it is probably faster and more intuitive than a top of...

Scenes from Korea

These days I have been lucky enough to travel around Korea and see the changing seasons. I love the mix of the old and new. Here are some of my more recent shots and follow me @seouleats on Instagram for more.

The 1st Cherry Blossum Tree in Full Bloom in Busan

I think this means the others are coming. On a farm not too far from Haeundae Beach, I saw a lone cherry blossum tree in full bloom. Others around the country such as in Gangneung and Jeonju are just about to bloom- the buds are starting to form. This one was in full bloom and it was glorious. With the warming weather I think that cherry blossom season will be coming much sooner than we expected this year. #blog #cherryblossoms #Korea -- Via my dancing thumbs I call thumbalyn and thumbadumb. Doorway to Korea: Gangneung

Doorway to Korea. This is a shot I took in Gangneung's Seongyojang. Gangneung is one of my favorite places to visit because of the sea, coffee and soondubu. Go there soon!  #korea  [Naver Map] Cultural Heritage of Korea Center Outdoor Theater Unjeong-dong Gangneung-si Gangwon-do http://naver.me/Fzwq9FeK

Coffee Cupper Museum in Gangneung, South Korea

Coffee at Coffee Cupper in Gangneung. It's an amazing museum dedicated to coffee with machines throughout history. Coffee is incredible as well. Sunset at Palsae Island in Sinan County Korea

Sunset on Palsae Island in Jeollanamdo Korea. Such a peaceful and clean place. It's where my wife's family is from and it is well known for their mineral rich salt that is used in fermented foods. #korea #sunset #polarr #seouleats #koreafood #foodporn #love #instagood #beautiful #food #korea  #instatravel #travelgram

Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy s10 e + Fold

Meh. I think Samsung is trying to sell this phone as a laptop & camera replacement. It's supposed to be the phone for all seasons. It also seems targeted at non-tech people and SNS media people that dream of being an Instagram star. It's too big. And it is blingy but it's not blingy enough to really impress anyone. Ultrasonic fingertip sensor? It just sounds like a lot of stuff that will break in time. It's not a groundbreaking phone. It's like the Samsung phones of old. The old flip phones that had it all but did nothing well. Plus, it's still not as fast as the iPhone even with the new processor and extra ram. And the fold? Who needs it and who will use it? It's just a novelty like the flip and turn screens. Also, the first person to sit on it and break it will start a firestorm of ridicule. Lol. I think phones have come full circle. I've had them all and the most important thing for a phone is security, privacy and navigation. Apple and iOS give...

The Girl With the Green Tea Hotteok

Hotteok in Winter. Here is Hazell dressed for winter on her kickboard. To keep her warm, I bought her a hotteok: A Korean Sweet Cinnamon, Nut Caramel Donut. She didn't care so much for the donut but she does look good in her winter clothes. You can find them in the traditional markets. This one is at Gwangmyeong Sagaree Station. If you wanted some more information on this iconic dish read further below.  One dish that I believe is universally adored in Korea is hotteok. Hotteok is a leavened dough cake that is stuffed with cinnamon, sugar and nuts. Them the dough is flattened and fried. Through the frying process the sugar melts to create a delicious caramel filling. According to some accounts from food historians, this snack was brought to Korea by Chinese immigrants who first landed in Incheon's international port. And even though the snack and the name resembles western "hot cake," hotteok's etymology is Chinese/Korean. "Ho" comes from the Chin...

Korean New Years Rice Cake Soup!

Did you eat your tteokguk, Korean New Year's Rice Cake Soup? If you did, you became a year older. Happy 2019 everyone. So rice cake is made from Garaetteok and in case you wanted some more information, here is an excerpt from a food radio show I wrote.  The long white rice cake called garaetteok are examples of the steamed and beaten rice cakes. These garaetteok are usually sliced into disks and used in the lunar new year dish tteokguk. The white disks represent coins. The fried rice cakes usually have flowers on them or stuffed with red bean paste. The boiled rice cakes are called gyeongdan and you can usually find them colored with different powders such as sesame seeds, red bean or millet.

Happy New Years! 2019, Here we go!

Hey World! It's been a wild couple of years. I haven't stopped eating or writing; it's just that I have this job, businesses, kids and family. Lol. I am not complaining. I love my wife and kids. I have been transitioning from a world-traveling, entrepreneur to a line cook/chauffeur/worker bee. It's all good. In 2019 I (hopefully...if my publisher gets it today) be putting out a book, the video productions and tv segments that I worked on in the last year should be aired and my littlest one will be starting daycare.  When I do go out with the kids, it's usually more work than play, since I have to keep the girls happy while not disturbing others. You don't want to risk the ire and judgement of others while parenting.  My cooking habits have changed since my daughters see food differently. They like colors and fun packaging. Black pepper is even too spicy at times so I tend to make a lot of Kimbap, dumplings, bread and grilled fish.  At night, aft...
