Chocolate Cake Coffee Break at Hollys Coffee

Chocolate Cake and coffee break @hollyscoffeekr Cake was legit and had surprising little chocolate-covered cereal pops in the chocolate cream. Dark chocolate pieces were hard which contrasted the soft cake, cream and more. It had enough caffeine that I didn't really need the coffee. Delicious. The atmosphere was great as well for a 24 hour coffee shop. Why do we need offices these days? There was enough power ports and strong WiFi to carry you through the day. Seoul Eats Instagram: Avocade Sandwich from Casa Deli

Avocado Sandwich from Casa Deli Had a legit avocado bacon sandwich that only cost me 5,500 at Casa Deli by Ikseongdong. Great bread and fresh ingredients. Support this local cafe! I have seen too many great little places go out of business because of a lack of customers. They will also change the concept in order to localize it. This place is good as it is so let's show our appreciation It's right next to the tteok museum in Jongno 3ga. #avocado #sandwich

Cafe Review: Steamers Coffee Factory

I grew up in America and that means that I want my coffee early in the morning and not at 10am when it seems most Korean cafes like to open. I like to have my coffee a bit later on Sunday's but I still want it before 8am. Steamers Coffee Factory has very impressive facilities. They brag on their cup that they have : "2 Roasters, 3 Coffee machines, 3 coffee machines, and 8 Baristas." That's great but I don't know when you can get all that great coffee. Sorry but cafes should be reliable dispensaries of caffeine. Because, I need it! Argh!  Anyway, their coffee is robust and delicious. I mean really good and it should be at 8,000 won for a hand drip. The first day I just had an espresso and I have to admit it was one of the best ones I have had in a while. It had nice creama and balanced tannins; it reminded me of Portland. I went back and had an Americano and that was also great except for the leaky lid. That sorta pissed me off because the lid is one of those new f...

World Mini Cafe

World Mini Cafe in Samcheongdong World Mini Cafe in Samcheongdong Cafes are a dime a dozen and most of the time the coffee is not the focal point in Korea. The cafe is the setting to have conversations with friends. Samcheongdong has many great cafes and World Mini Cafe in Samcheongdong has a wonderful interior with amazing miniatures made by the artist/barista. Here are some pictures of the pieces inside the museum. Coffee at Cafe JeJe

Cafe Jeje Cafe Jeje is my new favorite cafe and since it is just up the road from me, I'm very happy. The best thing about this place are the beans. They are all roasted in house by Kim Gwang-seon. I am not one to trust certificates and awards, but she knows how to make a cup of joe or a latte or a cappuccino or any number of great drinks. She has several award winning drinks on her menu such as her Polar Snow, but I just go in for her rich, flavorful hand drip coffee. I love the Guatemala and the Mandheling. The Ethiopia is fine as well and at 3,000 won for a great cup of coffee is a bargain (in Korea, 3,000 won is a bargain for coffee). It's a great place to relax after work and catchup on reading or just for relaxing. They have free wifi as well. The cafe has lots of freshly roasted coffee in house and I often buy a bag or two for home and for work. Each bag is only 10,000 won for 250grams and for the quality it is incredible. Overall, this place is one of the best...

Cappuccino at aA Design Museum

Cappuccino at Aa Design Museum It is tough to survive in Korea as a cafe. Especially when a few cafes set the bar so high. Aa Design Museum started the whole trendy coffee/ furniture/ fashion space years ago in Hongdae (A s seen here ). Then they decided to start another one over by Samcheongdong and its concept is just as sleek and stylish as the previous one. The best new addition is the outdoor BBQ so you can have your wine or coffee with some freshly grilled meat. The space is stylishly decorated with many authentic designer furniture, lamps, and other collectables. It's sort of a hodgepodge, but all of it works in this space- obviously, the designer has a discerning eye. Now the cappuccino was topped with high with a dry foam and that foam was decorated in leaves made from the espresso. Not only was it pretty, it also tasted pretty good. I recommend you check out this space. They have a light food menu, wine, coffee, beer and an awesome space. Rating 2 out of 4 Stars aA...

Foodie Meetup at TAF Art Cafe in Sinchon

Balsamic Brushetta at TAF Foodie Meetup at TAF with Joe Mcpherson and Sarah Lee Warmed Spinach Dip My life is pretty good most of the time- especially when I get invited by restaurants to come eat. TAF or Total Art Festival is a nice little cafe with good food over by Sinchon Station. I was invited to come by the owner Dori Lee and when I arrived I was surprised to see a few other food bloggers. Sarah Lee of Seoulinthecity.com  and the Might Joe McPherson of Zenkimchi.com  were already there. As we talked about our foodie lives, Dori and her staff prepared a tasting of their menu.  First came the warmed spinach dip. Quite nice with crunchy walnuts on top. The dip was cheesy and had good flavor. They went well with the nachos, but I think I would have preferred a pita or some flat bread. Next came a curried spinach salad over steamed pumpkin. Excellent presentation and I loved the earl grey soaked raisins in the dish. It paired well with the pumpkin. The last ...

Review: Cupcakes at Mug for Rabbit: 2 Stars

Rating 2 Stars: Recommended (Great setting, good icing, foamy cappuccinos.) I said before that I thought that the cupcake trend was something that would never really take off in Korea. It might have some appeal, but for the general public, cupcakes are just too small and expensive. Cupcakes in Korea have been regulated to a niche market. Mug for Rabbit in Garsugil is the cafe that is the Korean dream. It started as a small little one floor place on Seoul's fashionable street and they quickly grew to take over the second floor. It is a success story that have made many want to emulate. This little, fashionable cafe helped the cafe sprawl in Seoul. Mug for Rabbit has character. The interior has quirks and charms such as the rabbit icon for the place, the lamps that spell out "R A B B I T" and even the coffee cup chandelier. There are also amazing photographs, so it has a gallery feel to it. The cappuccino that I ordered was foamy- not the best cap, that I've had bu...

Cafe Review: Luni Euli in Hyeri

Written and Photographed by Aaron JacksonCrabb Luni Euli Cafe in Hyeri “Hello, how are you today?” came the soft warm voice of the proprietor as she walked up from behind. “I am well, thank you,” I replied glancing over my shoulder to see who was speaking to me. “How are you?” I inquired as she moved around me taking up her position behind the counter while opening a menu book and placing it before me. “Do you know Dutch Coffee?” She asked. “Unfortunately, no. I do not.” “Well than, let me introduce you to Dutch Coffee. My name is Euli. My friend Luni and I opened this café just two weeks ago,” she began to explain, “Dutch Coffee takes a very long time to brew. It is a specialty coffee. You see the shelf in the corner over there,” pointing towards the corner where a three columned shelf sat on top of a mechanics red tool box with a bunch of glass chemist beakers, “that is our brewing equipment. When we pour water into the top dripper it slowly drips a single droplet of water out ...
