Inspired by Food at 4am in Nova Scotia

I feel inspired. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night because of jet lag or because the copious amounts of chocolate that I indulged in at the Chocolate Salon Dinner last night at the Culinary Tour Summit in Nova Scotia. I woke up because my mind was on fire with ideas. Being invited to the Culinary Tour Summit in Nova Scotia has reconnected me with myself and the reasons why I have always been drawn to working in the food industry. I woke up with a craving for food so fresh and so flavorful that I wanted to embed my brain with the memories of its flavors of Nova Scotia before I leave. I want to embed a memory so strong and so deep that it will make me in the future pack my bags and to make this journey back to Nova Scotia to enjoy these tastes again. So I am up at 4:30am having a mug of wild blueberry juice and having spoonfuls of matured, organic, artisan made cheddar cheese. For me, this is culinary tourism at its core: it taps into memories. It creates a sense of p...

Work with Dan: Become a Culinary Tour Guide

O'ngo Food Communications with Seoul Eats has been developing Culinary Tours to introduce Korean Food to travelers to Korea. We have several different tours including the Night Dining Tour, the Market Tour and Cooking Class, and the Temple Cuisine and Tea Tour. We are looking for tour guides that can speak English or Japanese and Korean and wish to learn in depth about Korean food. You will be trained to give a tour from food specialists: Daniel Gray and Professor Jia Choi. Ideal candidates don't have to be absolutely fluent in English or Japanese, but they should be able to talk about Korean food and culture in a way that is insightful. A college degree is not necessary- this would be a perfect part-time job for university students. This is a great way to meet travelers to Korea, practice speaking English or Japanese, and to learn about Korean Food. Contact Daniel Gray for more details at seouleats @ gmail. com

Culinary Tourism in Spain: Got Tapas?

Culinary Tourism? What's that? It's something that the company that I work for is starting up in Korea. So far, it has been going pretty well. It's nice to see that other people are doing it as well. Here is a woman in Spain doing tours for tapas. The whole idea is that you have an insider's tour of Seoul. You can read about our tour offerings here. Cristina Alonso holds a doctorate in environmental engineering, has worked as a researcher in the U.S. and taught math at a university in Spain. Now she's giving me some advice from her latest profession: "If you see a lot of locals, you know they're here for something," she says. "They're the ones who talk loudly... see what tapas they're eating." The 44-year-old Ms. Alonso, a native Spaniard, has abandoned engineering in favor of tapas tourism—taking clients around tapas bars in Spain. A private tour costs €95 ($127) a person including food and wine. "You relate closely to peopl...

Full Discloser: Update on Seoul Eats: Culinary Tours and Cooking Classes

I think that we all want to do what we love. Food is my passion and Korea is my homeland. I have been working hard to combine my passions into a business that is beneficial to me and to the community at large. By doing this, it will allow me and the Seoul Eats Team to bring you even better content and tips on how to find the best restaurants in Korea. Taking more of a business approach to blogging doesn't mean that I will stray from the original mission of this site. When I started, I wanted to have a forum to critique restaurants and to let others know where the best places to eat in Seoul are. Even if I am asked to go to a restaurant, I write my honest opinions on the food. If it is bad, then I will tell you so in an objective way. Also, if I am invited to a restaurant then I will disclose this information. Since my blog has started I have been privileged to work on many projects revolving around food and there are even bigger ones in the horizon. For example, in the coming year...
